Thank you to all that have given to Hugo House during Night of 1,000 Words. We are incredibly grateful for our writerly community and the support we've seen over the past week as we've celebrated Hugo House's 25-year history and raised funds for the House's future.

No matter the dollar amount, your donations have a real, tangible impact on the community we serve. Every single dollar donated during Raise the Paddle and through the auctions directly helps Hugo House students looking to deepen their connection with writing and storytelling.

What does that impact look like? Last year...
  • Nearly 7,000 adult students enrolled in Hugo House classes, over 1,000 of whom received free instruction or scholarship assistance.
  • We engaged nearly 500 youth students, with almost half of them benefiting from free programming and receiving tuition discounts through our sliding-scale offerings.
  • We ran 107 events—80% of them free—attended by nearly 10,000 audience members and featured 175 performing artists, over half of whom identified as BIPOC.
  • We offered about a thousand hours of close mentorship through our consultant, fellowship, and writer-in-residence programs.
  • Through employing teaching artists and staff, many of whom are wonderful writers and artists themselves, we were able to give back over a million dollars to working artists in the community.
We could not do this work without your support.

Raise the Paddle donations will be open until midnight tonight. If you have not made a contribution yet, please consider making a gift to Hugo House today to help us reach our goal. And if you've already given and your budget allows, please consider increasing your gift today to help us reach more students.
