Cottonwood families,

We are so excited for Cottonwood Gifts Day on Tuesday the 24th!  As you may know, we have been celebrating the Cottonwood tree for the past few months as we have watched our tree in the side yard transition from winter to spring. We have learned lessons from and about the tree, seen the stars in the branches, and some of us have made healing salve with the buds. The Cottonwood is a wellspring. It holds so much water in it’s branches that it is well suited for drought or other adverse conditions. It supports the community of plants and animals around and under the canopy. It teaches us to consider our own wellspring- what makes us strong? Where do we come from? Who do we come from? What do we have stored in our trunks to help us overcome adversity? How do we share this strength with others?

Each class has created a Cottonwood-inspired gift for the school and Tuesday is the day we share these gifts with each other. Some classes have done art projects, some have created songs or poems, and some have created physical gifts for each child.

We will end the day with the whole school coming together outside (for the first time all year!) to sing our new Cottonwood song written and led by McLean and the 7th graders! This will be around 2:45 in the playground in case any of you want to come a little early to pickup and join the celebration from outside the gate.

Cheers to you all! We are really looking forward to celebrating the Cottonwood tree and our amazing community.
