SPECIAL NOTICE: Summer Exercise Class Registration is Open - Zumba, Line Dancing, Fitness, and Cardio will be hybrid (in-person and via Zoom); Balance & Agility only offered via Zoom. There is a seven-person minimum to run each class. Payment is made directly to the instructor. If you are interested, register as soon as possible. SPECIAL NOTICE: Thursday, June 9 Bach Concert - 11:00am Indian Hill Music, 36 King Street, Littleton - FREE concert featuring professional Indian Hill Music School faculty members and Orchestra musicians. 12 seats available for Carlisle 60+ residents. COA  Transportation not available for this event. Must drive on your own. NOTE: Anyone attending an Indian Hill Music concert must adhere to their concert safety protocols - proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test taken prior to concert start time along with wearing a face mask at all times when inside the venue regardless of vaccination status. SPECIAL NOTICE: Saturday, May 28 Getting to Know Our Native Trees and Forest (All Ages) - 9:00-11:30am Spencer Brook Trail, intersection of West and South Streets - Sponsored by the Carlisle Garden Club - Join tree climber and naturalist Andrew Joslin on a FREE tour of some of his favorite trees and forest locales. Puzzle over tree identification, look broadly at the forest flora and fauna, and observe human-related artifacts and effects. Binoculars are handy for studying trees from the ground. Be prepared to protect yourself from ticks and biting insects. We may step off the trail here and there; long pants are recommended.
 
Wednesday, June 1 Men’s Breakfast - 9:00am Town Hall - Stop by, say hello, and sit down with your fellow gentlemen and friendly COA staff for FREE coffee and breakfast treats. Registration requested. To sign up call the COA 978-371-2895 by Friday, May 27.
 
Thursday, June 2 Keeping it Fresh and Preventing Waste (All Ages) - 1:00pm via Zoom - Join Emily Hayes RD, LDN of Stop & Shop Nutrition Partners to learn how to prevent food waste right in your own kitchen. Learn how to store fresh food to make it last longer, along with tips for meal planning, recipes, and how to use up food scraps. We’ll also review what the dates found on food labels, including “Sell By,” “Best By,” and “Use By,” mean for stocking your pantry and refrigerator. Tuesday, June 7 Reading Poetry Anew (All Ages) - 10:00am-12:00pm via Zoom - This informal course, led by Mary Zoll, will include poetry readings and reactions, discussions of the patterns and techniques used in the poems, and perhaps some intellectual understanding of the poems. Tuesday, June 7 Boost Your Brain Health by Eating Well - 12:30pm Gleason Library - Current research shows that certain diets can boost your brain health, at any age! Learn how easy nutrition guidelines and recipes offered by the Senior Living Residents at Concord Park can get you started on the road to a healthier mind and improved memory! Tasty brain healthy food samples will be provided. Call the COA 978-371-2895 to register by Tuesday, May 31.

Tuesday, June 14 Butterfly Place and Kimball Farm - Van departure time TBD - A day trip to the Butterfly Place in Westford—an indoor garden filled with hundreds of freely-flying butterflies! But before mingling with the winged beauties, we will lunch at Kimball Farm Grill & Seafood Shack in Westford. Order your food at the counter, and there is plenty of outdoor seating in their tented picnic table area. Butterfly Place entrance fee is $8 paid at entry. Van fee is $5 due day of trip. Wednesday, June 15 Gen Silent Film Screening (All Ages) - 2:00-4:00pm via Zoom or in person at Gleason Library - The FREE film introduces us to six older adults from the Boston LGBT community, many who had been out of the closet but felt compelled to go back in the closet as they got older and were more reliant on health care services. Immediately following the film there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion about the documentary and LGBT issues and history. Thursday, June 16 COA Lunch - 12:00pm St. Irene - Choose from a variety of grinders and wraps for lunch. After your meal, the 2022 Carlisle Cultural Council awardee, Dan Kirouac, will entertain you with a one-hour piano & vocal concert. Complimentary for Carlisle 60+ residents. Registration is required.  Friday, May 20 Bedford Memory Café - 10:30am via Zoom - Sponsored by the Bedford COA - Join Elizabeth Kaupp of Bedford’s Right At Home for our alternative ‘virtual’ Memory Café. Caregivers and loved ones are welcome to join us via zoom to reconnect with others during COVID and socialize. This month, join pianist Mel Stiller. He has been playing piano and leading sing-alongs at senior centers, memory cafes, assisted and independent livings, and nursing homes for the past decade. He specializes in standards and show tunes from the 19201960s. Wherever he plays, songbooks can be distributed with lyrics to the songs being played so participants can sing or follow along. Friday, May 20 Where Jazz Meets Classical - 7:30pm Concord Conservatory of Music 1317 Main Street Concord - Jazz and classical music might seem to live on opposite sides of the musical world. Surprisingly, at times, these genres intersect and share with one another. Borrowing from genres, an acceptable practice by many, can create innovative new music that delivers. Guest musicians, saxophonist Kenneth Radnofsky and pianist Yoshiko Hiramatsu Kline, will be joined by CCM faculty members Tsuyoshi Honjo on saxophone and Peter Evans on live electronics and bass clarinet. Wednesday, May 25 On Emerson and Parker: A Conversation with Dean Grodzins - 7:00pm via livestream or in person Concord Museum - Few figures had more influence in shaping Transcendentalism in America than Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. Join Dean Grodzins, author of American Heretic: Theodore Parker and Transcendentalism, in a wide-ranging conversation to help mark the 219th anniversary of Emerson’s birth. $10 for non-members. Wednesday, May 25 Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman: A Creative Kinship - 7:00pm via Zoom - A FREE illustrated virtual talk with Camille Arbogast, Codman family scholar. American novelist Edith Wharton’s first published work was not a novel but a design manual that she coauthored with the Codman Estate's Ogden Codman Jr. Their book, The Decoration of Houses, was destined to become an interior design classic. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lincoln Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Link here to register.
 
Wednesday, June 1 Shake-scene - 6:30-8:00pm Concord Main Library - Sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library - Join Shakespearean performers Stephen Collins and Poornima Kirby for a rollicking ride through some of the Bard's finest poetry and most compelling characters! Featuring scenes and monologues from some of Shakespeare's best-known plays, this original compilation digs into universal themes such as the price of power, the risks of falling in love, and what to do with a murder weapon. Also includes a lively "sonnet duel," plenty of playful banter, and fascinating historical context; and includes a Q&A session at the end.
