Greetings friends,
This past weekend the UVM campus was alive with the sounds of pomp and circumstance as we celebrated the accomplishments of this year’s graduating class. It is likely this year’s graduates are thinking deeply about life beyond college, and that usually means launching into new career pathways that will keep them here, in Vermont, or take them far beyond. Here in the Office of Engagement we are particularly interested in keeping them here in the Green Mountain State.
This month’s newsletter is once again full of reporting on ways UVM students, faculty and staff are making a difference. We lead with another installment highlighting the great things that are happening across the state, with this month’s travels taking us to Randolph and Bethel, Vermont. We then highlight the work that our Career Center is undertaking to support our students and eventual graduates of color as they enter the workforce. A story highlighting how one recent UVM graduate parlayed his internship into a full-time job as an on-air reporter for WPTZ follows. We also review some of the ongoing work that UVM Extension and Research faculty are leading to support agritourism and geo-spatial analysis. Pediatric clinical trials conducted by faculty researchers from our Larner College of Medicine are highlighted. Their work reaches some of our state’s most rural and underserved areas with an eye toward improving the health of young Vermonters. This month’s newsletter concludes with a story of one faculty member’s ambition to bring music to all 251 towns in Vermont.
As the weather warms up we hope that you all find time to reach out to a neighbor and offer a kind word or helping hand. And in the meantime, please let us know about your engagement stories!
Warm regards,
Chris Koliba, Ph.D.
Director, Office of Engagement
