This June sees a quieter Manresa than usual, not welcoming the continual flow of retreatants, but taking stock and preparing to lay foundations for new beginnings.

We are happy to offer some day retreat opportunities this June, trusting that – whatever the summer brings for you – they will help you to know how best to find your path.

The busyness of nesting birds - and the clamour of the young - goes on all around us. Our latest slow video watches a nest hole in a cherry tree near the Arrupe Chapel.

Pilgrim Ways Retreat Day

Come to Manresa on the morning of Sunday 3 July for a Pilgrim Ways Retreat Day

Even as preliminary work begins in preparation for the new building, this is a day to attend to the grounding of our lives and hopes. We will allow the lovely surroundings to invite us to pay attention both to our roots and aspirations. You will be able to take some time of quiet or to participate in a variety of activities among them forest bathing, time with scripture, selections from Laudato Si’, walking the Native Tree Trail in Saint Anne’s Park, tree-planting in Manresa’s grounds, a guided walk of Manresa’s Labyrinth. Mass will conclude the day.

  • 9:30 am - 5:30 pm, Sunday 26 June 2022

We concluded residential retreats at the end of May in preparation for the building and renovation work. Although there will be some disruption, we look forward to being able to offer better facilities to retreatants and to improve the conditions for our staff. This work will include:

  • a new single storey, flat-roofed building to provide for new reception, dining rooms and kitchen
  • preservation of the castle - a protected structure - by external and internal attention to roof, walls and windows
  • refurbishment of the former Tertianship to replace the castle as the residence for the Jesuit community
  • replacement of all windows in the Retreat House block and refurbishment of Retreat House rooms
  • provision of car and cycle parking spaces

We look forward to the commencement of work this summer and to reopening in Autumn 2023.

Manresa Retreats

As Piaras Jackson completes ten years in Manresa and prepares to move on, Ashley Evans takes up the reins to plan the centre's future and to organise Manresa's events at other venues. This newsletter and Manresa's website will keep you informed of other retreat possibilities and let you know how the work proceeds.

Many people have found the benefits in taking time to retreat in their own or in a borrowed private space. We have been glad offer online direction and mass during retreats; now we continue to make resources available for use in your own time.

Great Faith: Women in the Gospels

Among the recently added online retreats are both Mike Drennan's 6-day retreats - Great Faith I and II. Both are now available for you to use as a retreat@home.
The Pope's monthly video presents topics that will keep the scope of our prayer inclusive and
outward-looking. The first video of this year remains apposite as Pope Francis invited us to pray
for world peace. Now he asks us to pray for families around the world.
