Earlier this year I introduced Quieting Breath, as a very easy but also very versatile way to Pause and connect with the current moment.  If you haven’t yet given it a try, I highly recommend it (see Daily Grind Got You Down?)!

However, as we close in on the end of May(!), I’d like to circle back and take a closer look at the role and importance of the Breath in a mindful meditative practice.

This week I’ll be talking about a few pragmatic considerations, and then next week I’ll introduce another practice that specifically centers the Breath as a way to partner with and quiet the Busy Mind!

A Few Breath Basics

There are many reasons to appreciate and be mindful of the Breath, but here are three I think are important to consider:
  1. LIFEBreath is quite literally life!  Depending on a variety of factors, such as  age, weight, gender, etc., you might be able to go without food for about a month or more, and without water for only a few days (you can read more about that here in this Insider news site article ), but you won’t last very long at all without air!  For this reason alone, it is good to become more mindful of and cultivate a sense of Gratitude for the Breath.

  2. SPIRITUALITY – focused, intentional breathing is a major part of many spiritual and meditative practices.  It is also a key factor in an ability to shift consciousness, which has corresponding impacts on your mood and state of mind.  And both play key roles in your ability to cope more effectively with challenges or stress.

  3. SCIENCE – finally, studies show that the physical and intentional act of taking a breath, sends a signal to the brain that helps to relax the mind and body (read more about that here) in this Everyday Health article).  Taking even the briefest of Pauses to breathe, provides an opportunity to interrupt the automatic flow of thoughts and emotions, enabling you to consider your next move in a calmer, more deliberate and less reactive manner.

The Breath and You

Did you know there were so many benefits associated with the Breath?  Something many of us do every day, without even thinking about it? Would you like to learn how to consistently draw on the Breath, to create your very own inner sense of calm whenever you want or need to?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES!, then I am inviting you to again consider enrolling in my “Mindfulness & Meditation: Refresh & Deepen Your Practice Simply…Beautifully…Uniquely” coaching program where you’ll learn to utilize the Breath more effectively in your practice, so you can harness these and other benefits.

During our time together, I’ll also help you to uncover...
  • strategies for starting and remaining consistent with your practice, even in the face of a busy schedule and the inevitable distractions of daily life.

  • the ability to tap into your own inner sense of peace and well-being…to even thrive in the midst of turbulent times.

  • the ways in which a mindful meditative practice can support an ability to enrich your personal relationships (which can help to improve your overall quality of life).

  • how to work with and finally quiet down your Busy Mind (even if you’ve been unsuccessful with that in the past)!
Enrollment information for this program is coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!  But if this sounds of interest and you have any questions right now, feel free to reach out to me via email at any time.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to our being able to take a moment to Pause, Breathe and Be Still together!

Sincerely,

Jill
