May 2022

A few weeks ago, I was able to sit down with Brenda Zane, host of the podcast Hopestream, to talk about adolescent substance use, transport, interventions, and more.

We dove into many topics, so if you're the parent of a teen or young adult who is misusing drugs or alcohol, you don't want to miss this great episode.

I was also honored to be a guest on the Rooted Recovery Stories podcast with Patrick Cluster. Our conversation covered addiction, mental health, and the tools we use to fight our recovery battles. Check it out here: https://www.promises.com/rooted-recovery-stories/episode-89/

May is also Mental Health Awareness month: the month where we draw special attention to our mental health and well-being.  This couldn't be more crucial as we all emerge from the pandemic and return to a semblance of normal life.

Taking the time to examine how you are coping with the lifting of restrictions, as well as to focus on re-entering the social or workplace environments, was crucial this past month as well as every month.

May is also a great reminder to check in on the people in your lives and start conversations about mental health. Normalizing discussion about well-being among your friend groups goes a long way toward grounding healthy relationships and ensuring strong mental practices.

When we speak about Substance Use Disorder (SUD), it is imperative that we speak about how addiction, trauma, and treatment affect  the workplace.

There is good evidence to suggest that SUD in the workplace is linked to a number of other confounding factors including mental health conditions, environmental stressors, and feelings of usefulness and meaning at work.
