CWN Newsletter: May 24, 2022
Welcome from the Cal Women's Network! CWN affirms a campus community where women* are empowered to pursue and achieve their professional and personal goals. *All who experience life through the lens of a woman in body, spirit, identity - past, present, future, and fluid. We encourage you to share ideas, events, and campus job postings with us anytime. Job updates are shared with the community weekly via email.
May is Jewish American Heritage Month and Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Jewish American Heritage Month
2022 marks the first year that UC Berkeley will be formally celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month.

Jewish Americans are critical to the fabric of America and have a rich history to celebrate worldwide. However, antisemitism has been on the rise since 2016. We encourage you to take time to learn about the many contributions of Jewish Americans on campus and how you can help combat antisemitism.

For more information, visit the UC Berkeley Division of Equity & Inclusion website

Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May also marks Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month. It is important to note that the AAPI community consists of over 50 different ethnic groups. There are 1.4 million Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders who live in the United States, and we encourage you to take time to explore and learn about this diverse group with the resources below, which were complied and shared by APASA.

The past few years have also seen an increase in anti-Asian racism, and we encourage you to educate yourself on what you can do to help change this narrative. Visit the UC Berkeley Division of Equity & Inclusion website for more resources.

The Becoming an Antiracist Campus (BAAC) Steering Committee is soliciting proposals!

The Becoming an Antiracist Campus (BAAC) Steering Committee is soliciting proposals for near term projects that will build the university’s capacity for antiracism work in 2022 and 2023. We encourage you to consider applying for this exciting funding opportunity.

Link to application form: Becoming An Anti-Racist Campus (BAAC) Steering Committee Fund Proposal Form

Proposal Submission Deadlines:

  • Monday, June 6, 2022 - deadline for 2022-2023 funding (funds must be spent between 7/1/2022-6/30/2023)

Proposals must be submitted by a recognized campus unit or organization and have a focused benefit for staff at the university. Projects may span one or both of the funding periods.

The Becoming an Antiracist Steering Committee is charged with creating a framework for antiracist work at the university, and with leading change efforts to shift the university from complicity to antiracism. We look to fund projects that build capacity, educate, compensate or incubate efforts to become an antiracist campus.

If you have any questions about the proposal process, please contact the co-chairs of the BAAC Committee, Alberto Ledesma and Margaret Hunter, at vcei@berkeley.edu.
