SH 358 MAINLANE OVERNIGHT CLOSURES CONTINUE
Work will open another eastbound travel lane

CORPUS CHRISTI – As the SH 358 (South Padre Island Drive) Ramp Reversal Project nears completion, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractors will set up mainlane and flyover closures to prepare the eastbound mainlanes for final pavement and striping.

On Sunday, weather permitting, workers will begin nightly eastbound SH 358 lane and ramp closures to remove temporary pavement markers. The SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway) flyover will close during this work. Once complete, the highway will have four eastbound travel lanes from Ayers Street to just east of Airline Road.

Closures details include:

SH 358 Eastbound Mainlane and Ramp Closures

  • Sunday (5/22) and Monday (5/23), 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights: All eastbound mainlanes will close from just east of the Ayers exit ramp to Weber Road. All eastbound traffic will merge to one right lane, take the Ayers exit, continue east on the SH 358 frontage road under SH 286, and re-enter the eastbound SH 358 mainlanes after Weber.
  • 9 p.m. Tuesday (5/24) until 6 a.m. Wednesday (5/25): All eastbound mainlanes will close from Weber to Staples Street. Drivers will exit at Weber and re-enter the mainlanes after Staples.
  • Wednesday (5/25) and Thursday (5/26) 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights: All eastbound mainlanes will close from Everhart Road to Airline Road. Drivers will exit at Everhart and re-enter the mainlanes after Airline.

SH 286 Flyover (Crosstown Expressway) Closures

  • Sunday (5/22) and Monday (5/23), 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights: The flyovers from northbound and southbound SH 286 (Crosstown) to eastbound SH 358 will close.
    • All northbound SH 286 drivers wishing to access eastbound SH 358 may use the Holly Road exit, travel north on the SH 286 frontage road to the SH 358 eastbound frontage road, continue east and enter the eastbound SH 358 mainlanes after Weber.
    • All southbound SH 286 drivers wishing to access eastbound SH 358 traffic may use the Holly exit, use the turnaround at Holly, travel north on the SH 286 frontage road to the SH 358 eastbound frontage road, continue east and enter the eastbound SH 358 mainlanes after Weber.

All mainlanes will re-open by 6 a.m. each day. Driveway access to all businesses and properties will remain open at all times.

Drivers should expect additional closures throughout the summer for final pavement work on the eastbound mainlanes and frontage road between Ayers and Nile Drive, as well as install striping and pavement markings. Weather permitting, the final riding surface will be completed late summer 2022.

TxDOT’s four-year project focused on enhancing safety and mobility on SH 358 between north of Leopard Street to just east of Flour Bluff Drive. The $50 million project began in January 2018.

All work is weather permitting. Lane closures are subject to change without notice.
