Weekend Edition
May 20 2022

Strong winds on Thursday knocked down a huge tree on Drake's Summit Rd in Inverness Park which knocked down power lines which started a small fire in green vegetation. Fire crews were on it immediately but it was a very close call. A stark reminder that fire season is upon us, be sure to prepare yourself.

News Summary

  • Residents of the steep and wooded Paradise Ranch Estates practiced evacuating their homes last Wednesday in an exercise organized by their neighborhood association with help from fire and law enforcement agencies. Officials said some people had difficulty hearing the hi-lo siren through thick walls and windows, but turnout was strong and the drill went smoothly. (PRLight)
  • EAC recommends avoiding Chicken Ranch and Drakes Beach this week for recreation. Drakes Beach hit a high this week with unsafe levels of E.Coli and Enterococcus.
  • After 2 yrs of drought, Marin's largest water suppliers are fortifying wildfire defenses by installing permanent power generators at their main operations centers, treatment plants & pump stations and using digital tools to map and predict fire behavior. (MarinIJ)
  • Check out this new 'risk factor' calculator to see what the greatest risk is where you live. Surprisingly (to me) was that flooding is a greater risk then fire in Inverness (94937).
  • The Point Reyes National Seashore will have its first ever full-time deputy superintendent starting next week. Anne Altman, a Fairfax resident and 20-year National Park Service veteran, most recently served as a business management analyst for the agency. (PRLight)
  • Reminder: COVID testing kits are still available thanks to the Biden admin. You can get 8 per household, delivered to your door, free of charge – and it only takes minutes to order
