A Kona man accused of murdering two Kona men and attempted murder made an initial appearance in Kona District Court this morning where a judge maintained his $1.5 million bail.
Twenty-four-year-old Chito Asuncion was charged with first-degree murder, which applies when an individual murders more than one person; two counts of second-degree murder; and two counts of second-degree attempted murder. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Monday, June 13.

Two mainland news outlets and two Facebook posts have identified some of the passengers involved in a helicopter crash Wednesday, June 8, near South Point on the Big Island.
According to an article from The Chattanoongan in Chattanooga, Tenn., a Chattanooga auto dealer and two family members were among the six people aboard the Paradise Helicopters Bell 407 helicopter, operated by K&S Helicopters, when it crashed Wednesday. The news outlet identified Clay Watson and his daughters, Kennedy and Clayton Watson, as three of the five passengers.

The property management company director tasked with communicating the intentions of the Keauhou condo HOA mired in controversy surrounding a cat-feeding issue said he’s received a couple dozen “brutal” emails from the public since a Big Island Now story on the issue published Monday, June 6.
Michael Kennedy, who works for Hawaiiana Management Company, the property management company that cares for Keauhou Palena, told Big Island Now on Thursday that his job is to enforce the rules established by the homeowner’s association board of directors, in this case Keauhou Palena.
