ASSEK NEWSLETTER JUNE 2022 EDITION 9
EDITOR'S NOTE
We are 16 days into the month of June! To kick off the month, Kenya celebrated Labour day by acknowledging its history through the opening of our Uhuru Gardens Memorial, our present and in the president's speech, set precedence for our future politically and economically. Our hope at ASSEK is that June has began with a hopeful fragrance for all our members.

This month, following up on our Digitization Project, we are still in the process of collecting data from different stakeholders in the ecosystem, in order to establish a baseline and capture key business needs with a special focus on the digitization capacity and gaps in access to knowledge, investors and access to the market.

Interested in joining ASSEK? Kindly send us an email at  members@assek.ke and we will get back to you as soon as possible on how you can be a part of this amazing association!
Best Regards,
ASSEK Communications

Stay tuned!

ASSEK NEWS
PRESS RELEASE; POSITION OF STARTUP AND SMES STAKEHOLDERS ON THE  ICT PRACTITIONERS BILL 2020

The startups, SMEs ecosystem stakeholders of Kenya challenge the passing of the ICT practitioner Bill 2020 by the National Assembly on Wednesday 8th June, 2022. The Bill demands the registration and licensing of poorly defined “ICT practitioners” and establishment of a bureaucratic Institute council.

The passing of this bill will impact and is bound to stifle innovation through its restrictions of entry into the industry stunting job creation and economic development within Kenya. As an association, our main mandate is to safeguard and internationalize the entrepreneurial eco-system and the bill passed will stifle efforts to do so.

The regulation intends to determine who can innovate, co-create and  establish and access technology focused jobs. The new bill may have an intention to streamline the Kenyan tech community but it equally has failed to consider the input of stakeholders and policy regulators in the startup and SME ecosystem
