Ey up <<First Name>>, how are you? |
|
I was pleased this week to be invited back onto the airwaves at BBC Radio Leeds. I usually pop up on The Morning Show, but this time it was an appearance on The Evening Show, with Sanchez Payne. |
|
Whilst on the show I got to talk about the tours, plus I had an opportunity to throw in some great gift ideas for people. I especially like two quirky pieces of merch from Kirkstall Brewery and Northern Monk, but if you want to find out what they are, you’re going to have to listen here. The clip is an extract from the full show, so no need to flip through to try and find me. |

Beer Name of the Month voting is back open! This time I’m asking you to pick your favourite beer name from beers released by Leeds breweries in May. You can vote here. |
|
In this week’s issue of Leeds Beer Shorts, a trio of new beers from Ridgeside, Nomadic get into lager, Briscoe’s Otley Music Festival special and lots more. |

Brewery Shorts |

Welcome to new subscribers! This section is a news digest of happenings at Leeds-based breweries in the last 7 days. The newsletter is prepared on a Thursday, so any news that breweries release between the final draft and the email arriving in your inbox on a Friday, will be included in the next newsletter. If you want to find out more about a particular piece of news, click the word that is underlined and coloured blue. Finally, if you have seen some news online this week and it isn’t mentioned below, it means I have covered it in a previous issue, or there is not enough information for it to feature yet. If you would like to access a directory of Leeds-based breweries, there’s a link at the bottom of this newsletter. |

| We start with Bini who have been getting their collab on with fellow local brewery, Horsforth. Out now is Route 65, a 5% ABV Mountain India Pale Ale. What is a Mountain IPA, I hear you ask? It can either refer to the region where the hops used in the beer are from, or it could refer to the volume of hops used (a mountain of hops…), or it has been brewed at altitude. My guess is this one was brewed on top of the dizzy heights of Ilkley Moor. The next open days for Bini’s brewery taproom have also been released. Mark your calendars on 25th and 26th June. |

| Over in Otley, Briscoe’s have brewed up something new. This is a limited availability one-off special in honour of the Otley Music Festival. The beer is 4.1% ABV and brewed with Mandarina Bavaria hops. |

| This weekend will be the exclusive first pour of Nomadic Beers’ brand new Lager at their brewery taproom. Limited availability means this will be tasters only, however it is free and drinkers will be trying this alongside brewery staff for the very first time. Also new out is their collab with Northern Alchemy (Newcastle). This one is called No Reason and is a 2.6% ABV Passion Fruit Raddler. |

| Fans of strong dark ale will enjoy this. North have recently collaborated with VarVar (Kyiv) to produce a 9% ABV Barrel Aged Smoked Stout. It was also announced in an industry newsletter that North will be opening a bar in Birmingham later this year. Finally, we are on the count down to North Bar’s 25th Birthday. The oldest craft beer bar in Britain who pioneered a movement we take for granted today. I will be joining festivities on Friday 1st July as I wear my Leeds CAMRA Chair hat (not literally, we, sadly, aren’t provided with headwear) to present them with a commemorative plaque. |

| The description of this new beer from Northern Monk puts it right down my street. The Beautiful Game is a Patrons Project series beer with Allkin (Tunbridge Wells) and is a 8% ABV Double India Pale Ale brewed with Mosaic (yum yum!) and Jester (also yum yum!) hops. Joining that is Patrons Project 33.03, a 7% ABV Double Dry Hopped India Pale Ale, brewed with Idaho 7, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, Rakau and Citra hops. That second one doesn’t sound too bad either, does it? |

| Launched last week at Quirky’s brewery taproom was Elizabeth. This is a product of one of Quirky’s Brew School classes and is a 4.6% ABV Golden India Pale Ale. |

| And, finally. It’s a triple release from Ridgeside Brewery this week. First up is Home Team a Mosaic (yum yum!) and Nelson Sauvin hopped 6.7% ABV Hazy India Pale Ale. On the other end of the scale is Larboard & Starboard a 5.9% ABV Export Porter, featuring Bramling Cross and Sabro hops. The trio is rounded off by another completely different style. 5.5% ABV Crumb Luc is the latest in their crumble sour series, this time featuring raspberry, apple, and bramble. |
