The parcours
Following yesterday's team presentation, the race starts with its traditional short time trial - but not through the old town of Sibiu like in the past ten years, but in the ASTRA National Museum Complex instead. Although the prologue is held on a similarly short 2.3-kilometre parcours, it is likely to require different skills, as the course is less technical and will advantage those which can keep up a high tempo from the start and carry their speed through the fast corners. Going past the windmills of the park and around the Dumbrava Lake, a picturesque three hours of close racing can be expected for the spectators at the roadside and on television, before the first yellow jersey of the 2022 Sibiu Cycling Tour will be awarded on the stage next to the entrance of the museum.
Located in the south of Sibiu, the ASTRA National Museum Complex is the most important ethnographic institution in Romania. The open-air museum was born from the desire of the Romanians from Transylvania to define their own ethnocultural identity in the ethnic conglomerate of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and in the context of the cultural emancipation of all the peoples of Central and South-Eastern Europe. The last time it was used for a time trial of the Sibiu Cycling Tour was in 2013, back then won by Stefan Schumacher.
