Eagle Express (SPANISH)          Eagle Express (ARABIC)          Eagle Express (AMHARIC)
FROM DR. KINGCADE
It is hard to believe that this is our last Eagle Express for the 2021-2022 school year! I want to take a moment to thank all of our John Adams families for their cooperation and support this school year. Students and staff experienced the most challenging year but our teachers remained focused on the importance of making students feel safe and helping them to grow!

Thank you to all of the families for your involvement and engagement this year in your child’s educational experiences.  We appreciate the families that attended conferences, MTSS Meetings, IEP Meetings, PTA Meetings, and Conversations with the Principal.  It was wonderful seeing families at International Night and Fifth-grade Promotion volunteering or celebrating each other.

A special thank you to the John Adams PTA board, Mr. Ramsburg (President), Mrs. Brownback (Vice President), Mrs. Sharman (President-Elect), and Mr. Powell (Treasurer) for all the support and acknowledgment that they showered our students and staff this year.  John Adams staff is grateful for the PTA's dedication and commitment to our school, staff, and students.  Thank you for your service.

A special message to our Eager Eagles is that the John Adams staff wants to thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I am so honored to be your principal and the teachers are grateful to have taught you. We would like to wish you all the very best summer break possible, and we look forward to welcoming you all back, refreshed, for what will be an exciting, new school year.

Best wishes,

Dr. Alicia Kingcade
Principal
SCHOOL LUNCHES NEWS STORY
John Adams was featured in a recent local news story about our school nutrition team and the federal funding of free school lunches for all ending soon. Dr. Kingcade gave a great interview advocating for the importance of the program! Check it out!
NEW GRADE 3-8 SOL REPORTS
READING AND MATH
Starting this spring along with their end-of-year report cards, parents/guardians will receive more detailed information regarding their student’s Standards of Learning (SOL) performance. The new Student Detail by Question (SDBQ) reports, provided by the Virginia Department of Education, will be received by parents of students who took a Grade 3-8 Reading or Mathematics SOL. The report will continue to provide an overall SOL Performance Level, which indicates if a student passed the test and remains the most important piece of information for parents to understand.

New to the report is a Vertical Scaled Score, which is used to measure a student's progress from one SOL test to another. The report will also provide more detail about how a student performed on individual questions. Students who took an Expedited Retake for either the Reading or Mathematics SOL this spring will receive a report for both test attempts in a content area.

Performance on a Standards of Learning assessment is one indicator of a student’s progress in learning the content and skills represented in Virginia’s Standards of Learning. It should be used with all other information in understanding your student’s current academic performance. To learn more about the new Grade 3-8 Reading and Math SOL Reports, please review this VDOE resource and contact your student’s school with any questions.
FIFTH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY
John Adams staff is proud of our fifth-grade students and wishes them well on their next journey in life as they are promoted to sixth grade.
