We want to bring to your attention that a member of the provider community received an email that purported to have Non-Routine Expenses (NRE) information and an attached file that wanted a password and macros enabled to view.
The provider let OPDS know that this had happened and wondered if our email servers were possibly compromised.
We can confidently state that our servers and email system have not been compromised, and that after reviewing the material it appears that the provider's own email was compromised in a Gmail breach, probably in the 2019 / 2020 timeframe (The NRE referenced was from 2020). The email itself came from an address in Brazil and there was no attempt to mask the senders identity so this was easy to see.
If you are concerned about an email correspondence from OPDS, please send an email to opds.info@opds.state.or.us with your concern and any details that you can provide. We will respond as soon as possible to your request.
Also, this brings to light that a reminder to all is order, the NRE emails that were used in the past are no longer in service and there is a new email address to use for submitting Case Support Services (CSS) requests. (Questions regarding a particular CSS:CSS@opds.state.or.us )
Thank you,
