Three families selected for community land trust homes
Saint Joseph Community Land Trust officially broke ground on three for-sale, permanently affordable homes on Riverside Avenue in South Lake Tahoe earlier this month. The homes are built on lots that were previously owned by the City of South Lake Tahoe and sold to the land trust for $1. The Riverside homes are for households earning no more than 120 percent of El Dorado County Area Median Income (currently $122,639 for a family of 4).
TRPA and partner local jurisdictions have launched a new tool to help homeowners calculate the potential costs and return on investment associated with building a new accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in the Tahoe region. Cost estimates are available for Tahoe communities in El Dorado County and Placer County, and more communities may be added in the future.
On June 14 Placer County approved a set of housing amendments, including movable tiny house regulations, new zoning to encourage mixed-use, and other updates. Placer County joins the City of South Lake Tahoe in creating a specific ordinance for moveable tiny homes. The housing amendments aim to reduce vehicle miles traveled, reduce worker shortages, and to increase the availability of a mix of housing types. The changes support existing and future residents, students, and employees whose income cannot support the cost of housing in the County.
South Tahoe Public Utility District Updates ADU Regulations
STPUD updated its administrative code to not require a new water or sewer connection or capacity fee for accessory dwelling units, consistent with California law.
June RPIC Housing Hearing rescheduled to
July 27 Governing Board Meeting
The TRPA Governing Board will hear an overview of the Tahoe Living Housing and Community Revitalization Strategic Initiative to-date at the July 27 meeting. The presentation will include an update on the density, height, and coverage conceptual proposal to improve feasibility for affordable and workforce housing. The materials will be posted on TRPA's Meeting Materials page one week prior to the meeting.
The meeting will replace the Regional Plan Implementation Committee hearing on housing development standards originally scheduled for June 22.
