Absurd UN report claims Israel ‘overwhelmingly’ to blame for Palestinian terror

The United Nations Human Rights Council has concluded its inquiry into the Israel-Palestinian conflict and, as expected, it is overwhelmingly anti-Israel.

The UNHRC press release states that “the continued occupation by Israel” and the alleged “discrimination against Palestinians” are the “key root causes” of the conflict. Including Palestinian violence.

CUFI Prayer

For the nations

The UN Human Rights Council this week released a report that says Israel is 'overwhelmingly' to blame for Palestinian terrorism. Sadly, we perhaps shouldn't be too surprised by the conclusions made by the the UN's body for human rights in light of its anti-Israel track record. It is absurd that Israel is blamed for the “persistent cycle of violence” when, in fact, Israel is the victim of violence from the religious extremism of Palestinian terror groups. But right now, we bring this heavy burden of injustice and misrepresentation to the Lord in prayer, praying against the lies and smears of the enemy towards Israel and declaring truth over Israel's name. Pray for those at the UN who are in a position of being able to speak out, that the Lord will raise up men and women of courage, who are prepared to lay aside their country's historic policy towards Israel and challenge the bias and distance themselves from the anti-Israel agenda that reports like this serve. Pray also for traditional allies of Israel, such as the United Kingdom - that we will be a faithful friend to Israel in the international arena and not compromised or fearful to speak out. It is likely we will be hearing more about this report in the coming weeks and anti-Israel groups are certain to use it for their aims, so pray for Israel in light of this.

For Israel at the UN

Pray for Israel's ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan, who was elected as a vice president of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. Gilad will assume the position for a year beginning with the convening of the General Assembly in September. He needs our prayers, especially as he seeks to combat the existing discrimination in the UN against Israel. He said, "This is an important victory, which will give us another platform to present the truth about Israel and its contribution to the world, despite the ongoing attempts of the Palestinians and hostile countries at the UN to act against us." This is certainly our prayer for Ambassador Erdan as he seizes this important opportunity. May the Lord bless him in his commission.

For the situation with Iran

This week the UK, US, France and Germany submitted a motion to the UN atomic agency to censure Iran over its lack of cooperation. It comes in a week that Iran removed more than two dozen surveillance cameras in nuclear sites and follows weeks of concern over the Iranian regime's escalation of its nuclear programme. In a separate matter, Israel has warned Israeli citizens travelling to Turkey over fears of being targeted by Iran operatives and the Thai security forces claim to have thwarted a number of Iranian plots against Israelis in Thailand.

Pray for wisdom for the UK and allied partners involved in the Iran nuclear negotiations, that there will be no compromise that rewards the Iranian regime and that Iran will not be emboldened in its hostile ambitions towards Israel.

A reminder from the Bible

The Bible says in Psalm 2,

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”

And in Psalm 33:10,

"The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect."

These verses are a humble reminder of the ineffectiveness and potential danger of the counsel of nations IF God is omitted. The catastrophe can be averted, however, if nations submit to the God of Israel and seek His direction. Let this be our prayer as we pray "for kings and all who are in authority" (1 Tim 2:2).

After a week in which we have celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, we must continue to pray for her. We have been reminded in recent days of The Queen's faithful service to her country and commonwealth for over 70 years. We remain thankful for the blessing of living under the reign of a Bible-believing Sovereign who has stayed committed to her God-ordained calling.

Thank you for joining with us in prayer today.

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever." - Psalm 23:5-6
