New law bans inclined sleepers and crib bumpers

The Safe Sleep for Babies Act, which became federal law in May, makes padded crib bumpers and inclined sleepers illegal to be manufactured or sold in the U.S. These popular but dangerous products pose a risk to infants who can roll over onto the padded surfaces and suffocate. Families that already have crib bumpers or inclined sleepers should get rid of them now, according to pediatricians and child safety groups.

Keep an eye on your child’s vision

June is Child Vision Awareness Month, a good time to remember that young children don’t know what they can’t see. Any problems with your child’s eyes are easier to correct with early treatment, so talk with your doctor or healthcare provider about giving your child a vision screening. Vision services are free if you’re covered by AHCCCS, and most insurance plans include vision services. There are also options available if you don’t have insurance.
