Retired NFL Players, Families, and Advocates,

As I think most of you know, most of my work on behalf of retired players over the last couple of years has been taking place behind the scenes and as such, the blog has only been infrequently updated.   I feel badly that the journalism aspect of Advocacy for Fairness in Sports has decreased, but this is in large part due to the time it takes working quietly to try to move the needle for retired players and their families.

Because of this, I wanted to send you a special invitation to participate in an informal Zoom meet-up.  During the meeting, I’ll be updating you on some developments in the concussion settlement and NFL disability and of the work I’ve been pursuing on behalf of the retired NFL community.  While some of this work is confidential (another reason I’ve been mostly out of sight) there is quite a bit I can share, including a special guest that I'm sure will be of interest,

Afterward, the floor will be open for your questions and concerns which I’ll do my best to address.  If we have good participation and people let me know they like communicating through Zoom, I’ll try to schedule more events like this.

There will be two meetings on Wednesday, June 8, one of which hopefully will fit with your schedule.  The afternoon meeting is set for 3:30-5:00 pm and the evening meeting from 7:00 – 8:30 pm Eastern Time.  Just click the links below to receive information to join the Zoom meeting at the time that is more convenient for you.

Clicking one of the links above will automatically generate an email to Sheilla, who will respond with the link and password for the selected meeting.

Unfortunately, the adage, “out of sight, out of mind,” seems true, and donations to continue the work of Advocacy for Fairness in Sports have for all practical purposes dried up.  The coffers are just about bare, and it is unlikely they will cover all the bills for the month of June—and certainly not beyond that.  There is absolutely nothing I hate worse than asking for money, and as such, I’ve procrastinated as long as possible.  BUT—I feel that we’ve come too far to quit now.  Since I am a disabled person on a fixed income, I’m unable to subsidize the expenses for Advocacy for Fairness in Sports alone.  I hope if you have a little cash you can spare that you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to ensure that we will be here to continue fighting for retired players and their families now and in the future.

I’ve always been committed to transparency and welcome your questions at Zoom as well as in one-on-one interaction if anyone would like to connect.  You can reach me at defendersheilla@gmail.com or simply reply to this newsletter.  I hope to hear from you soon and to see many of you on Wednesday.

Best wishes,

Sheilla
