A new agricultural business closed on their property and is advancing through the site plan phase of development on County Road 229. Greenlife Farms "encourages people to choose food that's good for their body, family, community & planet by making it easy to eat clean." Their local hydroponic farms "sustainably grow premium baby leafy greens that are full of flavor and nutrients, and free from GMOs, additives and contaminants." The new facility will provide fresh produce to the immediate region utilizing commercial distribution.

  • 18,647 Veterans are living in Sumter County, according to the United States Census Bureau's most recent statistics. 
  • Sumter County Veteran Services has staff available to assist Veterans and their dependents with preparing claims and securing benefits or privileges to which they may be entitled.  The Veterans Service Office can be reached at 352-689-4400.

More Businesses Coming to Sumter County
Sumter County is expecting several new businesses to open soon. Some of the businesses that have opened recently or are expected to open soon are Dairy Queen, Sprouts Farmers Market, Sephora at Kohl’s, and Culver’s. Sumter County still continues to be a prime destination for businesses to locate. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Sumter County has gained 876 new private businesses in the last 10 years.

Department of Labor Proposes Changes for Exempt Employee Status
The U.S. Department of Labor recently released its Spring Regulatory Agenda. On the proposed agenda is a plan to adjust the tests that classify employees as exempt. Changes are being considered for the baseline salary threshold and whether future salary threshold increases are to be automatic based on inflation.
