Diocesan Campus Ministry Update

Dear Barth House Community,

I write with the news that my curacy at Barth House is ending so that I may take the opportunity to assume an associate rector position within the diocese, at Church of the Holy Communion. I am grateful for a process of mutual discernment with Bishop Phoebe and Rev. Noah over the last few weeks, which allowed exploration of where my ministry gifts might best fit within our diocese.

It has been an honor and delight to serve at Barth House for the past year. I have learned so much, and you have nurtured and supported me as I officially assumed roles of pastor, priest, and teacher. Most especially, I am thankful for the experience of learning alongside my co-chaplain, Rev. Noah Campbell. I will carry much with me: Sunday night dinners and compline with undergraduates, hearing from a diverse mix of clergy at our Wednesday eucharists, laughter and fun that accompanies set-up for events (yes, sometimes ministry involves a lot of moving of tables and chairs!), and the relationships with individuals who come back week after week to nurture their faith in this place. All these experiences will serve me well in my future ministries. Thank you for your contribution to my priestly formation.

My new role allows for some continued involvement in Barth House, as a volunteer and as scheduling permits, and I will be present through June before taking some planned vacation in July. So, this is not exactly good-bye, but it is a change. I am proud of the work we have done together in the past year, launching new programs in a newly renovated space. This is just the beginning, and I give thanks for the continued involvement of all who contribute to and assist at Barth House. Please continue to support campus and young adult ministry in the Diocese of West Tennessee!

This Sunday is Pentecost, a reminder that the Good News is not grounded in just one place but is to be shared and spread to the entire world. I am going forth to a new call, grounded in my experiences here at Barth House and grateful for that. The lessons of Pentecost also remind us that the Holy Spirit abides with us always. May that same Spirit be with you today and always.

Yours in faith,
Rev. Sarah
