The 2022 Gun Buyback Program is being coordinated through the Marin County District Attorney's Office in partnership with local law enforcement agencies, the Marin County Board of Supervisors, and local City & Town Councils. With your support we are hopeful that the 2022 program will be as successful as the previous events where hundreds of firearms and a large volume of ammunition were collected and destroyed.

This event will take place on Saturday, June 4th, between 9 AM to 1 PM at the Marin County Sheriff’s Office parking lot (1600 Los Gamos Drive). Firearm drop-offs will be completely anonymous with no questions asked. Handguns, rifles, and shotguns turned in will receive $100 as part of the program. Assault weapons turned in will receive $200 as part of the program. All firearms are required to be functional, unloaded, and and secured in the trunk of vehicles. Boxed ammo will also be accepted during the event.

Electric Vehicle Myths & Facts on Going EV

.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) deals with six common misconceptions about electric vehicles on their website. Click on the hyperlinks below to learn more.
Now we deal with Myth 5: EVs are worse for the environment than gas cars because of battery manufacturing:
  • While some studies show that making a typical EV can create more carbon pollution than making a gasoline car due to the additional energy required to manufacture their batteries, over the lifetime of the vehicle total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with manufacturing, charging, and driving an EV are typically lower than those associated with a gasoline car. That’s because EVs have zero tailpipe emissions and are responsible for significantly fewer GHG emissions during many years of operation.
  • This is especially true for residents of California where our electricity is from 30% to 100% GHG-free sources.
  • An exhaustive study by Ford and the University of Michigan further assesses the differences between sedan, SUV and pickup truck vehicle types also differentiating between internal combustion (ICE) Hybrid Electric (HEV) and Battery Electric (BEV) powertrain types.
  • Fact-checking organization AFP researched some of the negative claims on social media surrounding EV vs. ICE vehicle emissions and found that, irrespective of electric energy source, EVs achieve lower life-cycle GHG emissions.
  • Below is a graph from the EPA showing life-cycle GHG emissions for typical electric and gasoline-powered cars:

Dump the Pump! Visit goevmarin.org and pledge to go electric!

Because most of Corte Madera’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation-related sources, electrifying your ride is the single most effective way to reduce your CO2 emissions.

Parks & Recreation Master Plan- Update
The Master Plan Sub-Committee of the Parks & Recreation Commission is currently drafting an Executive Summary on the project to present to the Parks and Recreation Commission for review.  The document will summarize community feedback gathered through surveys, workshops, public meetings, and ongoing projects and interests of the Town and Parks & Recreation Department. The summary will include recommendations on how to address current and long-term recreation needs (programming and facilities) for Corte Madera residents as outlined in the Town’s General Plan, Chapter 6: Parks and Recreation.

Potential facility improvement projects discussed during community engagement sessions such as field improvements, community pool, park restrooms, classroom/meeting space, event space, and park amenities will be included.

This Summer, the Sub-Committee will first present the Draft Executive Summary to the Parks and Recreation Commission for review and potentially recommend all or elements of the Summary to the Town Council for review and approval.

Following Council review and at their direction, individual projects may be researched more thoroughly and shared with the community for feedback.

Community Input on Potential Projects:
  • For Example, a potential field improvement project would include multiple options from using natural to artificial material, research on pros and cons of options, drought considerations, environmental impacts, impact to immediate neighborhoods and schools, estimated budget, etc.
Important note: No decisions or approvals have been made on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  The Executive Summary will be a synopsis of community feedback on programming and facility needs to address current and long-term recreation needs (programming and facilities) for Corte Madera residents.

In Case You Missed the Paradise Drive Complete Street Project - Virtual Workshop #4

The Town of Corte Madera has initiated design services for multi-modal improvements in the form of new bicycle and pedestrian facilities along the approximately 1,700 foot long section of Paradise Drive from Westward Drive to the Town limit east of Robin Drive.  In general, these improvements are expected to include sidewalks, shared use paths, bike lanes and/or similar on-street bicycle amenities. Additionally, the project will consider adaptation measures in anticipation of sea level rise. The Town had previously hosted two introductory public workshops in November 2021 to introduce the project to the community by discussing project goals, challenges, and opportunities. This was then followed by a presentation and discussion with the Town’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory (BPAC) committee in January of 2022.

To further develop the project, the Town hosted a fourth public workshop to share conceptual design alternatives informed by prior public input and to solicit additional community feedback on the conceptual design. The project team presented various options relating to; bicycle and pedestrian improvements; parking, no-parking and/or vehicle queuing; and adaptation measures to potentially raise the road in consideration of future sea level rise.

The virtual public workshop was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022  via Zoom.  To watch the video recording of the meeting, please click here. To visit the project webpage, click here.
