Friday Notes from David

Greetings! I hope that this Friday email mini-newsletter finds you well, happy and safe, and secure in the knowledge that God loves you, and that we love you here at your Church!
We had a wonderful exchange with our 3 young confirmands last evening with our Deacons as Autumn, Hailey, and Lindsay presented their Testimony of Faith followed by a lively discussion by all.

A common theme was the sense that we are all a part of a special community
people are loved by God as God's "perfectly imperfect people" as one put it last night.

Being a part of this particular community has certain advantages and responsibilities.
One of those is the keep ourselves informed as to what opportunities are out there for us as well as to be able to share with our neighbors and fellow citizens
all that this Church is and does.
The latest edition of the Church Newsletter, Faith Matters, is linked below
to assist you.

The June edition of Faith Matters
is up on the Church's Website
You can also find printed copies in the Entrance Foyer and Fellowship Hall

The New Standby Power Generator
was put in service this past Wednesday.

The final step is planting some bushes to screen the view of the generator from the road.

Many thanks to our anonymous donor, Hantsch Electricians, Mitchell Propane,
Mark Lowe of Earth Artist Excavating, Brian Neff P.E., and our Trustees!

There are still Ukraine Pins available

In Such a Time

Talitha Arnold

May the glory of the Lord endure forever. - Psalm 104:31 (NRSV)

Several years ago, I joined a 21-day do-it-yourself raft trip through the Grand Canyon. Every day everyone loaded the boats, rowed, set up camp, cooked, cleaned, and packed up the next morning. Most days we also hiked the side canyons.

One person had more sense than the rest of us. In the middle of a hike or setting up her tent, she’d simply stop and look around. Sometimes she’d lie down, gazing in silence at the sky or the canyon walls. When someone asked if she was okay, she simply said, “I’m having a beauty attack.”

This reflection comes only days after the massacre of school children in Uvalde and two weeks after the slaughter of African Americans doing their Saturday grocery shopping in Buffalo. Perhaps as for you, the images of grief-stricken families and terrorized children are seared in my mind. Perhaps like you, I am angry beyond words that we continue to let such carnage happen in this country.

I initially thought this reflection would focus on today’s text from Galatians 6:7-10, where Paul proclaims, “God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow.” His judgment of the Galatians could be titled “Letter to the Americans.”

But perhaps like you, I cannot live on anger alone. I am grateful that today’s lectionary pairs Paul’s prophetic words with Psalm 104’s praise of God’s creation and the reminder that God’s intention is not carnage and suffering, but glory and even joy. Like the psalmist and my friend, I need to be open to God’s “beauty attacks.” Perhaps you do, too.

Prayer

May your glory endure forever, O Lord. May we have the sense to see it and trust it, even in this time, especially in this time. Amen.

Being Received next Sunday...
UCC's Strengthen the Church Offering.

This offering is being received in most of our UCC congregations across the country.

In the last year, investments in technology allowed many United Church of Christ congregations to enhance their online worship services.

Other funds enabled new and renewing churches to grow their communities, one in a gentrifying neighborhood, others on a college campus and a town square.

COVID-19 grants empowered 50 churches to better serve their neighbors and their congregants gathering virtually during the pandemic.

All of these ministries and many more were supported through gifts to
Strengthen the Church.  The funds raised support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations.  By your generosity to this offering, you build up the Body of Christ.

There will be specially marked offering envelopes in next week's bulletin to use.
Donations can also be mailed to the Church or you can give on our online giving portal:
