“Old ideas can sometimes use new buildings. New ideas must use old buildings.”

Hey there <<First Name>>—
WCEU was a terrifically successful event by all accounts. Cory and Adam enjoyed meeting many old and new friends together in person again. David followed all the talks closely from home and has some really great takeaways.
David and I both thought we’d get a quiet week for graduations (congratulations Olivia!) and family visits. It has been pretty quiet apart from two (as always) surprising and then not so surprising new acquisitions. That’s 14 for the year, which puts us on pace for fewer than 2021 but a lot more than 2020.
As big players with hosting platforms absorb the mid-sized plugin companies, the view from below can seem very disadvantaged and precarious.
Is it though? There are always opportunities and unique advantages. As WordPress and its ecosystem continue to evolve, the ways we map it out mentally must change too.
I enjoyed Brian Coords’ post at MasterWP this week because it invites the kind of creative rethinking and dialogue we need about this complicated and sometimes sensitive subject. I drafted something short of a blog post in response, continuing an ongoing conversation with others in our community. There will be more to come.
