Building on Differences Helps You Build Trust.
But Where to Start?
<<First Name>>, I wanted to share some interesting conversations that stemmed from a presentation I gave to the Women in Business Networking Group - which I am proudly a member of:).
The presentation focused on:
1. What Trust and Motivation Are About
2. Building on Individual Differences
3. Building Collaboration & Influence
When it comes to differences, the focus was on identifying some of the root causes - which are many, but we focused on these 3:
- individual biases
- communication styles and
- generational differences.
It was wonderful to see how, as we were advancing through the presentation, everyone started to identify some of the things they could START doing in order to build on the differences between them and, for example, members of their team or even some of their clients:
'I resonated with what you said on Gen Zs, and I see what I can do differently so that I have a better conversation with them.'
'I was wondering about communication styles and I see how I can identify a client's preferred communication style, so that I can make communication with them more productive.'
Point is:
- most of the times, learning starts with us LEARNING ABOUT a new solution or a new way of doing things;
- but learning can only become Mastery once we realize what it is that we need to UNLEARN.
Learn different. Lead different.
