Volunteering, Research and Consultations

Volunteer Archeologists

The Hadrian's Wall Community Archaeology Project is going to be digging test pits in Benwell on Friday 1 July between 10 am and 4 pm.
There will be two digs - one on the Pendower Estate and the other in the grounds of Shafto Court on Ferguson's Lane.  On Pendower they will be looking for remains of the Roman presence almost 2,000 years ago, and on the Shafto Court site, they hope to uncover evidence of the medieval village of Benwell.
They are looking for volunteers to help with the digging for all or part of the day.  Visitors are also welcome to come along and watch what is happening and talk to the archaeologists on site.
