This week's wine: stellar wine picks for pairing with sushi

Pairing wine with sushi might seem tricky-- but it doesn't need to be! This week let's get into a few quick tips, along with my (current) favorite recommendations.

Quick tips
*Avoid tannins-- so stay away from those big Cabs! Tannins often interact with fish in a way that leaves a very unpleasant and metallic taste. So go for white wines or low-tannin rosรฉs or reds (like Pinot Noir) if you prefer reds.
*The same principles of wine pairing apply with sushi as they would any other food-- so think first about your fish: is it a light and delicate fish or a big, meaty, or even oily fish? Light and delicate would pair well with a white wine equally light, while the more big, meaty fish-- like swordfish or tuna-- you may want to try a full-bodied white, a rosรฉ or a light red.

My recs
*Off-dry Riesling (just slightly sweet!): this is perfect if you are someone who loves wasabi and spicy sushi, the slight sweetness in the wine will offset the spice of the food in a way that is just *chef's kiss*

*Albariรฑo: it's a zippy, acidic white which makes it great for any sushi with fried components, and bonus: it has a beautiful salty-sea finish that pairs naturally with anything from the sea

*Prosecco: you knew I had to throw in a sparkler here, right?! The beauty of Prosecco is that it often is just a touch of sweet so, similar to the off-dry Riesling, it'll be great with the wasabi and anything else spicy, and the bubbles are just a great palate cleanser between bites!
