Dear friends,

Some quick updates:

1. Please join me in voting "yes" in the special election on Tuesday, if you haven't yet voted early or by mail. We are voting on whether to allow the City of Providence to issue Pension Obligation Bonds of up to $515 m, at an interest rate of 4.9% or lower. This will help us fund our pension liability. My support is based on the hard work of the pension working group which took a hard look at the options we have to meet our pension obligations. There are many steps that happen before Providence would issue the bonds. First, the voters must approve it. Second, the General Assembly must approve it (and I voted "yes" when the House passed the measure last week). Third, the City Council must give final approval. More information about the bond proposal is available here, on the Providence website.

2. I'm continuing to work on getting 5 gun safety bills to the floor for a vote. We have these bills ready, and have been working on them for years.  They will:
1. Limit magazine capacity to 10 rounds
2. Raise age to purchase long guns and ammunition to 21
3. Regulate assault weapons
4. Require safe storage of weapons
5. Prohibit open carry of long guns in public.

**Please keep writing and showing up for gun safety.** There will be a gathering at the State House on June 11 at noon, part of a national day of action for gun safety, FB event here

3. The budget should be posted in the next few weeks. I'm hoping we see more investment in housing and behavioral health care, a commitment to addressing Medicaid rates and meaningful investments in our communities.

4. Two bills I sponsored were voted out of committee last week - a bill to regulate e-bikes is scheduled for a floor vote Wednesday; a bill to regulate neonicotinoid pesticides is scheduled for a floor vote on Tuesday.

5. I'm starting to see lots of campaign signs out, it is the season! If you already have one, please plant it in your yard again. And if you want one, let me know!

Legislating is definitely a team effort, and I am grateful to be working together with you to make RI even better.

As always, please let me know what you think, by e-mail, phone or at my community conversation tomorrow at noon (see link above). Also, please follow me on Twitter or Facebook, or write to me at info@rebeccakislak.com. You can also call or text me at 401-400-2338.
