"Let's finally do something"
Dear ,

We as a nation are heartsick with the latest tragedies in Buffalo and Uvalde. How massive and unwarranted does a tragedy have to be to move our divided country to look beyond partisan platitudes? Seasoned politicians know that public outrage wanes, is numbed, or another equally egregious crisis occurs, even within days. They seem to have only a brief window to pass legislation. President Biden must recognize this as he said, "Let us meet this moment. Let's finally do something."

We will see soon if Congress can make headway on the gun issue. Make your voice heard.

Unfortunately, climate action can't wait for a another crisis followed by inaction either.

We have to rely on ourselves to make the noise, especially in the next two months. Why?  Because rarely is there an opportunity to get climate legislation passed with only 51 votes in the Senate through the Budget Reconciliation process, and that door shuts for all intents and purposes in July.

So, after you contact Congress and the President about gun violence solutions, please take a few minutes to contact them with a brief heartfelt and urgent note about why you care about climate.

Then cherish the time you spend with those you love in this place that we love - Montana.

Kristen and Robin

Get out the Climate Vote!
In 2016, Michael Stinnett discovered that only 50% of voters who listed the environment as their top priority actually voted, so he founded the non-partisan Environmental Voter Project or EVP to change that! Last fall, EVP volunteers called, emailed, and texted climate-targeted Georgians, and got 45,000 of them to vote for climate!!

Help get out the Climate Vote nationally: Join CCLer's from around the country volunteering for EVP and log your action in the Action Tracker under Grassroots Outreach, so we can reach our goal of 400 outreach events by Sept. 30!

CCL Montana will be joining the Environmental Voter Project  phone banks on these dates:

  • Colorado June 28 10am MT HERE

  • Sign up for Arizona July 21 at 4 pm MT HERE
Thanks for being an active participant in democracy.

TRAINING: Voter Participation Outreach
Meet with Business Leaders to Build Support
Politicians listen to business, and more and more businesses recognize the effects of climate on their operations and the opportunities building out the clean energy economy offer.

At Sen. Daines' Economic Summit June 2 in Bozeman, Kevin O'Leary, Chairman of O'Leary Ventures, announced the opening of a data center on CSKT land using hydropower from the Kerr Dam. He declared  "But that data can no longer afford to run on just any power source. They need clean power,” he said. “The world has decided, for good or bad, whether you agree with it or you don’t, that ESG really, really matters.”
Plus, five of the industry leaders with locations in Montana who spoke are members of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, which supports carbon pricing and other climate actions. Other examples are Bridger Photonics, which developed technology to detect methane leaks, and Daimler Truck North America, whcih is producing its first electric semi truck with a 200 mile range.
Join our Chamber or Endorsement Teams (see Statewide Teams below) and help get more businesses on board with real climate action, including asking them to write to President Biden!

TRAINING: Ask leaders to contact Biden

CCL National Monthly Call

June 2022 Monthly Meeting w/ Neil Chatterjee, former FERC chairman
Saturday June 11th, 11AM MDT

It isn't often we have a guest who can cover as much ground on climate and energy as Neil Chatterjee. As the chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission during the Trump administration, it was his job to ensure that energy was delivered, reliably and safely, across the U.S. A vocal supporter of carbon pricing, he took a bipartisan approach to forming energy policy. On this month's call, Neil will share his climate story, why he supports carbon pricing and how we can prepare the grid for the transition to clean energy.

Climate Policy Update

Dr. Danny Richter presented a webinar on Congress and CCL strategy last month, and don't miss his presentation June 12th at 12:40pm MT at the conference.
Short story is the Senate has a limited time to pass the extensive climate package, or parts of it, that passed the House last fall, using the Budget Reconciliation process which requires only 51 votes, not 60. Sen. Manchin's bipartisan efforts failed and he's back at Schumer's table, for now.
Now is the time to remind our Senators we care about climate!

A new study shows hope for climate success:
A recent study by Frances Moore from UC Davis in the journal Nature  envisions a cascade effect in which public support gradually spurs climate policies in many countries. That catalyzes the deployment of clean technologies, which drives down their costs, which further increases public support, and so on. CCL Research Coordinator Dana Nuccitelli analyzed the new study. Read more.

Get onboard Montana! The Northwest Power and Conservation Council's recently approved  20-year power plan for our region calls for 3.5 MW of renewable energy and more efficiency by 2027.  Read more
