Iowa IAI Conference Nov. 15-17, 2022

The Iowa Division for the International Association for Identification (Iowa IAI) was founded back in the 1960’s, with the goal of associating people around Iowa who held a forensics-related title or job responsibility. Now, we have over 200 members that are a mixture of civilian and sworn crime scene investigators, criminal investigators, administration, crime laboratory personnel, medical examiners, death investigators, community service officers, evidence and property technicians and students studying forensic science or criminal justice. We provide regular trainings, an annual educational conference, and send out updates on different types of forensic processing procedures.

Police Social Work in Rural Iowa

Date and time: Tue, June 21, 2022 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM CDT
Learn the story of a social work-police partnership in Algona, IA, how it has evolved, and how it is funded.

In 2016, the sex crimes investigator from the Algona Police Department in Algona, IA, partnered with a local social worker on a presentation to raise awareness around online safety for children. Over 200 community members attended the presentation learning about human trafficking and online safety.

From idea to reality, this team worked to partner community volunteers with law enforcement to integrate best practices for mental health response within the department. Police social workers are embedded within the Algona Police Department. During this event, presenters will cover the history of this program, how they have sought and received grants to fund the position and share their grant writing practice.
