Happy Summer! This is the first of a few newsletters that you may receive this summer. As students are still searching for internships and other opportunities, we wanted to keep you posted!

NEW! Midwestern Citizen: Staff Writer Application

Midwestern Citizen is a premier undergraduate legal, political, and literary op-ed publication at universities across the Midwest, Great Plains, and adjacent areas. MC writers write a minimum of one opinion article per month, contending with comprehensive legal, political, and sociocultural topics ranging from constitutional law to antitrust enforcement to environmental policy. MC is currently staffed by writers and editors from twelve universities, including the University of Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis, and The Ohio State University. 

Fill out this application if you're interested in becoming an MC Staff Writer. Top candidates will be selected for an interview with several editors. The application deadline is rolling, with preference given to those who apply early after recruitment begins at their school. 

MC is a nonpartisan publication and does not discriminate on the basis of political ideology.

NEW! German Southeast Asia Centre of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance

We’re looking for talented volunteers and unpaid interns interested in contributing remotely to Europe in Review or Asia in Review, curated news reviews designed for readers who want to stay abreast of significant events in Europe and Asia, but do not have the time to read multiple daily newspapers from cover to cover. For more information on CPG’s work, please visit cpg-online.de

Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship
Deadline: Friday, July 1, 2022


The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is once again partnering with Café Bustelo® to award twenty-five $5,000 El Café del Futuro Scholarships. Candidates must be enrolled full-time at a HACU-member institution, 18 years old or older, of Hispanic/Latino descent, and US citizens or permanent legal residents. To enter, students must complete the online application located on the HACU website and write an essay in English or Spanish.

Coca-Cola- HACU First Generation Scholarship
Deadline: Friday, July 1, 2022


The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities teamed up with Coca Cola to award five scholarships of $2,500 to students. Candidates must be full-time students attending a HACU member institution, a first-generation student (defined as a student of Hispanic descent who is the first in their immediate family to attend college), 2.5+ GPA, US citizen or permanent resident. Open to all majors. Candidates must craft a 500 word essay on their personal motivation for applying to the scholarship as a first-generation college student. EHLS Scholarship Program for Native Speakers of Critical Languages
Deadline: Thursday, July 7, 2022


Native speakers of critical languages are in high demand in the US government. EHLS trains candidates to be effective communicators and strong candidates for federal jobs. All EHLS participants receive a full scholarship from the National Security Education Program that includes tuition and a living stipend. Applicants must be US Citizens who are native speakers of Arabic, Azerbaijani, Balochi, Bambara, Dari, Hausa, Hindi, Kazakh, Korean, Kurdish, Kyrgyz, Mandarin Chinese, Pashto, Persian Farsi, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Tajik, Tamashek, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, Uzbek, or Vietnamese with English language skills at level 2 or higher on the ILR scale. Program Assistants

Student Coordinator
We are also seeking to hire a Student Coordinator who will provide coordination for the program and supervision for the Program Assistants. Remote Paid Summer Internship on UN Relations and Policy

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women's empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and US-UN relations. The UN Relations and Policy Intern provides cross-cutting policy, research, and events support to the Office, allowing them to learn about and support several priority issues of the Foundation. Candidates must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be within 8 months of graduation from a college or university. Must be authorized to work in the US. First Trip Funding for Trips Outside the US

First Trip provides funding for individuals traveling to countries ranked lower than Very High on the United Nations' annual Human Development Index. Currently, scholarships are awarded up to $1,500. Awards are determined by applicant need, destination, and availability of funds. Applicants must be a first-time traveler outside of the US, enrolled in an accredited US college or university, pursue a college-approved program or travel opportunity in an eligible destination, and provide a brief account of the travel experience upon return to the US. Passport vouchers are also available for a select number of individuals with demonstrated financial need. Students enrolled in accredited community colleges are encouraged to apply here: https://www.firsttrip.org/first-trip-scholarship
 

Part-Time Internship Opportunity: Stephanie Chang for State Senate District 3

Michigan State Senator Stephanie Chang is looking for hardworking and passionate interns to assist with an ambitious campaign for her 2022 reelection.

Interns will assist in voter contact including canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and staffing events when needed. If you have skills that you would like to use to help the campaign, whether it be creating social media posts, photography, research, or anything else, let us know and we can arrange for it. No prior campaign experience is needed. We’ll show you the ropes and together we can create meaningful change in our community.

Interns are expected to work for 5 to 20 hours a week depending on the level signed up for. These hours are flexible depending on your schedule. We are happy to help provide what you need if you want to take this internship for class credit, just let us know! Interns will receive stipends; the amount will depend on available funding and number of hours worked.

Internship Opportunity: Cindy Axne for Congress Student Ambassador Program

This program is an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in electoral politics and want to learn how a political campaign operates. We offer robust developmental opportunities where seasoned campaign professionals and senior staff will speak as panelists with Student Ambassadors on a regular basis. The goal of this program is to train the next generation of campaign organizers so that they are prepared for a full-time campaign job.

Student Ambassadors will have the opportunity to develop volunteer recruitment, event management, and interpersonal skills. The position description is attached here. Full-Time Fellowship Opportunity: Student Programs, US DOE Office of International Affairs

The US Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of International Affairs (IA) seeks motivated students and recent graduates to take on today's pressing climate challenges through a full-time fellowship with its DOE Science, Technology, and Policy Program. Participants receive a stipend, typically based on the participant's academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Internship Opportunity: Sue Shink for State Senate Campaign

County Commissioner Sue Shink is looking for enthusiastic special projects interns to support her bid for Michigan’s 14th State Senate district.

Special project interns will join an experienced team of staff and consultants, providing a unique opportunity to learn the field, finance, and communications aspects of a campaign. Interns tasks include donor research, voter outreach, social media, and more. We ask interns to commit around 10 hours a week; we are very flexible with student schedules.

We also offer extensive professional development opportunities throughout the campaign.

The 14th district is a new, highly competitive State Senate district, spanning eastern Washtenaw County to southern Jackson County. This seat is critical to gaining the Democratic Majority. We hope you join our campaign!

Michigan House Democratic Fund Finance Fellowship

Applications are now open for the Michigan House Democratic Fund’s Finance Fellowship! During this selective 12-week paid fellowship program, campaign fellows will learn and engage in cutting-edge political strategies. This program is designed to test, train, and develop a new class of Michigan campaign operatives and help to expand our campaign efforts across the state. Fellows will be given a monthly stipend of $600.

Applicants must be based in Michigan with the ability to easily travel to Lansing. Fellows will work out of our Lansing office with the potential opportunity to work remotely on a case by case basis.
