Our HUBTalks are free online sessions designed to provide support and information to schools in our region. Everyone is welcome, so please share details regarding the events to your colleagues. 
HUBTalk: Pathways to Success and Collaboration
by Professor Mel Ainscow
Mel Ainscow, Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Manchester, is internationally recognized as an authority on the promotion of inclusion and equity in education. We are excited to welcome Mel to share his research at our last HUBTalk this academic year at 4pm on Wednesday 15th June. The session is suitable for all school staff and governors.

Early Career Framework
If you have an Early Career Teacher starting in September, you need to:
  1. Register them on the DfE portal
  2. Sign up for the Red Kite ECF Full Induction programme
     
This applies to ECTs that are just starting their induction and ECTs in their second year of teaching. You can also register your ECT with the Red Kite Appropriate Body on the same form. 

We are delivering a series of online ECF Information Events to answer any questions about the Early Career Framework. These are especially designed to support any schools that are new to the programme in 2022-23. Please come along to one of the upcoming sessions:
 
National Professional Qualifications
The DfE have announced that schools with fewer than 600 pupils are eligible for a targeted support fund of £200 per staff member who participates in an NPQ from October 2022, plus all NPQ programmes will be fully funded through 2022-2023 and 2023-24. Red Kite TSH will offer eight NPQ programmes in partnership with Teach First from October:
  • NPQ for Executive Leadership
  • NPQ for Headship
  • NPQ for Senior Leadership
  • NPQ for Leading Teaching
  • NPQ for Leading Behaviour and Culture
  • NPQ for Leading Teacher Development
Including two brand-new NPQs:
  • NPQ for Leading Literacy – for teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading literacy across a school, year group, key stage or phase
  • NPQ for Early Years Leadership – for leaders qualified to at least level 3 with a full and relevant qualification, who are, or are aspiring to be:
    • managers of private, voluntary and independent nurseries
    • headteachers of school-based or maintained nurseries
    • childminders with leadership responsibilities

Supporting Recovery Training Programme
In the wake of the pandemic, schools are working hard to mitigate the impact Covid-related disruption has had on their pupils’ learning and life chances. The Education Endowment Foundation’s Research Schools Network are delivering newly developed free online training programmes, specifically designed to provide support school leaders in their approach to educational recovery, school improvement and planning for the next academic year.

The programmes will provide guidance on using evidence to identify potential solutions to challenges schools are facing, and context-specific tools and worked examples of putting new initiatives into practice.
Three cohorts are running in North Yorkshire:
  • For secondary, alternative provision and special schools:
    • 7th June (13.00 - 16.00), 15th June (14.00 - 15.30), 20th June (14.00 - 15.30), 6th July (13.00 - 16.00)
  • For primary schools:
    • 18th May, 25th May, 8th June, 22nd June, 29th June, 6th July (all 13.30-15.00)
    • 19th May, 26th May, 9th June, 16th June, 30th June, 7th July (all 15.45-17.15)

Curriculum Hubs events

Reading Framework
Thursday 16 June, 3.34 to 5.00pm Online

St. Michael's, Westgarth, Little Sutton, Yorkshire Endeavour, Jerry Clay and Burley and Woodhead, have come together to lead joint CPD on the Reading Framework which was published by the DfE in the summer 2021 providing guidance for schools to meet existing expectations for teaching early reading.

We will be leading two sessions to explain each element of the Reading Framework and how this can be implemented in your school.

All two sessions must be attended.

The sessions will run from 3.45pm - 5pm on

  • Thursday 16th June
  • Thursday 30th June

The sessions are based on

  • Session 1 - Thursday 16th June delivered by Westgarth and Little Sutton, Yorkshire Endeavour and St Michael's
  • Introduction and overview of the Reading Framework
  • The Importance of Reading
  • Language and Storytime
  • Session 2 - Thursday 30th June, delivered by Jerry Clay and Burley & Woodhead
  • Systematic Synthetic Phonics

This session is aimed at -

  • Headteachers
  • Senior Leaders
  • English Leads
  • Teachers
  • Teaching Assistants

Promoting Language Development through provision based environments and storytelling EYFS Twilight
Thursday 16 June, 4:00 to 5:15pm Online

This session is aimed at EYFS/KS1 class teachers and Reading Leaders, providing practical ideas for developing language through story telling and embedding decoding and literature into a provision based environment. You will see videos of Helicopter Stories- Tricia Lee, in action and see tours of outstanding classroom environments, which are language and literature rich.

Summer Maths Conference 2022
Wednesday 6 July, 2.00 to 4.00pm
National STEM Learning Centre, York

The day will bring together maths education professionals from the region for an inspiring day filled with valuable learning experiences and exciting keynote speakers.

Keynote speakers on the day:

Dr Debbie Morgan CBE – NCETM’s Director for Primary Maths

Dr Sue Gifford – Renowned Early Years researcher and Principal Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of Roehampton.

Gareth Metcalfe – Creator of the inspirational ‘I See Maths’ website

Peter Mattock – Specialist leader of Education and author of ‘Visible Maths’

Ed Southall – Maths curriculum designer for Oak National Academy

Robert Wilne – Lead Teacher for Outreach at Kings College London Maths School

The conference is for teachers from all phases working in schools in North Yorkshire, York and the East Riding and is free to attend for state funded schools.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
