Story From Clinic

Recently, an 18 year old girl came to clinic with her younger brother and two neighbors. Her main concerns were somewhat vague: weakness, difficulty sleeping, and poor appetite. Our nurse asked a few more questions and learned the patient's mother had died one year prior. Her father works in another country so he can earn a living and send money home (this is common practice here). As a result, this young girl and her two younger brothers are living alone. She is in charge of shopping, cooking, and cleaning all while trying to study for her high school final exams. On top of that, she has not really processed much of her grief over her mother's death. Scott and the nurse spoke about the importance of emotional and spiritual well-being. The young girl was initially reluctant to talk about her mother, but our nurse felt a strong desire to speak with her, so the two of them talked privately for some time. Our nurse was able to share some of her own experience of growing up in an orphanage and not having contact with her biological parents. This was especially meaningful for the young girl, because she had expressed fears of her community thinking of her as an orphan.

Please pray for this girl and her family as well as for more heart-level encounters with patients and their loved ones.

Sharing at Devotions

The Home of Love children participate in 30 minute devotions every morning and evening except on Fridays. Scott recently started leading the Monday morning session, and he has been received with encouraging response. One teenager remarked at his correct use and pronunciation of the language and suspected he had received outside help in preparing. While a nurse at the hospital has helped to ensure the main idea is easy to understand, the majority of the work has been independent (and a good form of language practice). We hope Jess will be able to join in for some tag-team sessions as well.

End of the School Year

Jess and the kids finished their homeschool curriculum at the beginning of June. We are so proud of all their hard work! Not pictured are many books read via Kindle!
James will turn 1 on June 20th!
One benefit of hot season is the tasty fruit. PIctured are two leechus (lee-choo-s). After peeled, the very sweet white flesh is eaten and the seed discarded. Not pictured: Mangoes!!! The imported mangoes available in American supermarkets don't come close to the prized domestic fruit here!

Prayer Requests

Home of Love's Tara will have her 2nd surgery on June 30th. The first stage of her cleft lip and cleft palate repair went well at the end of March. Thank you for praying!

For our organization's 5-year plan and application with the government. The current plan is through the end of June, then a new plan must be submitted and approved. This affects projects, spending, visas, and more. Needless to say, it's kind of a big deal.

Completion of 2 big projects our hospital team is conducting prior to the end of the current 5-year plan:
  • WASH - Water and Sanitation Hygiene. We hope to facilitate and greatly subsidize the construction of numerous wells and latrines in a poor fishing village.
  • Equipment purchases for Faith Clinic - with outside donations, we are in the process of purchasing some new equipment to further the diagnostic and training opportunities at our clinic. Please pray the logistics of these purchases, deliveries, and installations go smoothly.
For the Lord's comfort, strength, and joy. That the joy of the Lord would be our strength!

Thank You!

We are so thankful for your continued support, prayers, and encouragement. Please keep us updated on your end. We would love to know how we can be praying for you!
