West Morris Church's mission is to Awaken Hope with the Transforming Light of Jesus.

Our vision is to partner with God to cultivate flourishing and unleash revival in West Indy.

Join us in this life-transforming, hope-filled Kingdom work!

Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the Law or by believing what you heard? Are you so irrational? After you started with the Spirit, are you now finishing up with your own human effort? Did you experience so much for nothing? I wonder if it really was for nothing. So does the one providing you with the Spirit and working miracles among you do this by you doing the works of the Law or by you believing what you heard?
Galatians 3.2b-5

Following the Free Methodist Way

It's hard to believe that we are already in the midst of June! Where does the time go? I'm reminded of the encouragement to "live your life wisely" in Ephesians 5.15-21 when I think of how quickly the time goes by:
So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly. Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times. Because of this, don’t be ignorant, but understand the Lord’s will. Don’t get drunk on wine, which produces depravity. Instead, be filled with the Spirit in the following ways: speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; sing and make music to the Lord in your hearts; always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; and submit to each other out of respect for Christ.

Last week during worship, we began a 6-week series called, "The Free Methodist Way."  This week we will dig into the first value which is Life-Giving Holiness. Whether "holiness" is a new concept for you - or it's something that brings up feelings of strict rules - come discover the freedom and joy that's really meant by holiness. Holiness that gives life!

Pastor Kristen on Vacation
In March, my dad turned 80 years young. He is still extremely active - snow skiing most weeks in the winter, gardening, fishing, kayaking, shoveling snow and going for daily walks. I am blessed by my parents' good health, but also recognize just how important it is to maximize opportunities to spend time with them. Our entire family is flying out west for a birthday party/family reunion in Idaho. All of our children, my sister's entire family, and my parents will be together - the first time in over 10 years! We will also be visiting John's family in Oregon - most of whom we haven't seen for 12 years.

We will be on vacation from June 7-17, and I will be unavailable via phone/text/email during that time. If you need anything, please contact the church office (317-632-8311 or wemofmc@gmail.com) or Pastor Rachel (317-677-2828 or rmohlman@gmail.com).

Congratulations to Pastor Rachel
Speaking of Pastor Rachel, if you were at church on Sunday, you joined the celebration. At Annual Conference, Rachel officially became a "CMC" or Conference Ministerial Candidate. This means she is officially pursuing ordination in the Free Methodist Church as an ordained elder/clergy. Rachel was also officially appointed to West Morris Church at Annual Conference. We are excited to see God working in her life as she pursues vocational ministry. Thank you for encouraging, praying for, and supporting Rachel in these steps.

We also continue to pray for Pastors Penny and Kevin as they continue their ministry training, and eagerly pray for others who may be sensing God's call of ministry on their lives. If that's you, or you want to know more, connect with Pastor Kristen. Developing leaders is one of my favorite things to do in ministry!!

News from Annual Conference
On Sunday you had the opportunity to hear highlights from many who attended Annual Conference. We are also excited to report that Pastor Kristen was elected as a Clergy Delegate to General Conference in Summer 2023 to represent Wabash Conference. And Jeff Drummond was elected as a Reserve Lay Delegate to General Conference. What an honor for two people from West Morris Church to represent Wabash Conference at this national gathering!

Prayer Updates
Thank you for your prayers for Jan Leak's surgery. She was able to go home on Sunday - several days before the doctors even expected! If you'd like to help out by bringing Jan a meal, contact Lou Mingous (317-850-4856 or lou.mingous@fmcusa.org). Continue to lift up Moe Omer as he recovers from significant burns. Pray also for Bonnie Miller who is in the hospital.

Summer Fest - THIS Weekend!
Finally, be sure to put Summer Fest on your calendars for Saturday, June 11 at West Park from 11-4. This inaugural community event, the summer version of the Winter Fest that we hosted last winter, will be a great community event with all of our community partners. Your participation and service is needed to help create a wonderful experience for our neighbors. Interested in serving? Contact Pastor Rachel Mohlman or Pastor Penny.

P.S. Don't forget THIS Sunday is Second Sunday Supper right after the worship service. Bring something to share and make plans to stay after for lunch. This is a great way to connect with others and get to know people - and have lunch!

Join with other churches in the West Morris building THIS Wednesday - at 7 PM - for a Prayer Walk around West Indy. We will begin at 7 PM in Comunidad's sanctuary (come in door #1), and finish at 8 PM at West Park. Power walk multiple blocks, or take a leisurely stroll just around the church property. Join with others, or pray by yourself. Prayer walking can be a powerful way to impact a community - so don't miss this opportunity!

Morris Streetscape Plan Update
Look for barrels to go up on the south side of the street, affecting east bound lanes of parking.  This restriction will remain in effect for the rest of the year.  East bound traffic will be consolidated into 1 lane. The north side/west bound parking lane will be restricted later this summer. However, the one-way restriction and traffic detour will not occur until after the first of next year.

While it may not look like this project began almost 2 months ago, Citizens Energy has been working on the underground utilities portion.  There is significant work being done for water, drainage, and gas structures. The pedestrian bridge on the Eagle Creek trail is also being rebuilt.

Thanks to Lisa Laflin, Director of WIDC, for the update!

We've heard from several of you that you miss Sunday School on Sunday mornings. Well, there's good and bad news about that.

The good news is that we have Sunday School - you're invited to join in, and those who attend LOVE it! The bad news? You're missing out if you don't join us!

Several other things also happen on Sunday morning at West Morris - check out the morning schedule:

9:30-10:15 AM - throughout the Church

  • Free breakfast & coffee in New Day Cafe (starting about 9:15 so grab it on your way to these other gatherings:)
  • Discovery Bible Study in lower level - study the scripture passage that will be preached on during our main service. Everyone welcome (and the elevator is available for use).
  • New Day Students on 2nd floor - youth in grades 7-12 are invited to an in-depth discipleship gathering in the new youth room on the 2nd floor.
  • Prayer & Anointing in sanctuary - join Geri and Sharon to receive prayer at the back of the sanctuary before the service.
  • Prayer Wall in sanctuary - have you spent time at our prayer walls? Pray for the prayer requests that have been shared on them and post your own.

10:30 AM - Worship in the sanctuary

  • Communion - join us as we celebrate communion together on the first Sunday of each month. We welcome everyone who desires to follow Jesus at the table.
  • Testimonies - where have you seen God at work in the last few weeks? Come ready to share your God-sightings every second Sunday of the month during our service.

12 PM - after Worship

  • Second Sunday Supper - pitch-in lunch in the lower level immediately following Sunday worship on the second Sunday of every month. This is a great way to connect with others around a table - just like Jesus did!
