CELEBRATING DADS & GRADS

Congratulations to our DSBF Environmental Studies Scholarship Grant Winners, Sophie Shapero and Madison Mairs!  The DSBF is pleased to recognize these two accomplished Dana Hills High School students for demonstrating interest in environmental studies and issues relevant to the preservation and protection of our parks, their natural and cultural resources and the mission of the Foundation.  We wish them much success in the pursuit of their goals and dreams.

Visitor Center & Aquarium Hours
The Visitor Center/Aquarium is currently open Thursday-Sunday 10-4 .  We will post more visitor hours as summer approaches. Come on in and meet Lilly the Spiny Lobster. It is estimated that she is over 70 years old.  Spiny lobsters tend to live in crevices of rocks venturing out at night to seek snails, clams or sea urchins to eat. Spiny lobsters navigate using the smell and taste of natural substances in the water that change in different parts of the ocean.  Potential predators may be deterred from eating spiny lobsters by a loud screech made by the antennae of the spiny lobsters rubbing against a smooth part of their exoskeleton. Spiny lobsters usually exhibit the social habit of being together.

Congratulations to volunteers Jeanette Shue and Eugenia Shue for receiving the SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from California State Parks for providing 25 years of unwavering dedication and countless contributions to Doheny State Beach.  Thank you ladies for your continued support of all of our programs, but specifically Docent duties and the Halloween Haunt.  You two are amazing and we appreciate you so much!
