Barracuda Bugle  June 6, 2022
Hello Barracuda Families!

This week's Bugle is long but important.  Please read through this in its entirety as there are important updates pertaining to the pool and this week's meet.

Thank you!

'COACHES CORNER'
From the Coaches:
We are so excited to have started our season and have loved seeing the team and getting to work with all our new and returning swimmers. We know we have had a rather unconventional start to season with hardly getting into our 8-lane pool this week, so we wanted to give some background on our situation, logic, and our plan moving forward.

As you may know by now, the heater in the big pool has not been functioning correctly and the water temp has been bitterly cold.  Although we anticipated getting into the pool from the start of the season, we made the choice this past week to use our 2-lane zipline pool which has much warmer and regulated water temps while we wait for the pool temperature in our 8-lane pool to warm up.

However, we were unaware - until the end of last week – the extent of the issues with the pool heater, which must be addressed and managed by the facility. That said, though the water temperatures may be similar to that of last week, in order to get the season started and allow proper training and instruction, we will have our swimmers getting into the 8-lane pool in upcoming practices, despite the cold water but being mindful of outdoor air temps (as in previous seasons and per the Parent Handbook).

We fully acknowledge safety and health related concerns and urge that swimmers bring warm clothes and plenty of towels for after practice (especially on Monday and Wednesdays). We will make sure everyone is properly warmed up before entering the pool, will keep our swimmers moving in the water and will not penalize swimmers who need to get out of the water; however, staying moving in the water once wet will be the best way to keep swimmers warm.

We were just granted access to 4 lanes of the indoor pool on Tu/Th and Fridays which we plan to take full advantage of as necessary, though using the 8 lanes in the outdoor pool is preferred. We will continue to have access to the 2-lane zipline pool which will be reserved primarily for the younger age groups. We greatly apologize for this major inconvenience and odd start to season but wanted to be transparent with the situation we are facing and extend gratitude for your understanding as we progress through the season.

Go ‘Cudas!
