It was so wonderful seeing many of you at our Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations last month. We have several events going on this month as well and hope to see you at one of them.

NAAAP DC Pride and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) invite you to Discover DC and join us in celebration of PRIDE this Friday, June 10th! We will be meeting up for an in-person happy hour at Tiki TNT & Potomac Distilling Company from 4:30 - 5:30 P.M. ET before heading to the event hosted by the Smithsonian Arts + Industries Building (AIB) Futures Exhibition for FUTURES Cypher: Pride 2050 from 6 - 10 P.M. ET. In honor of PRIDE month, AIB will be hosting an interactive discussion and performance art exchange challenging big thinkers and creatives in the LGBTQ+ community to collaboratively reimagine shared futures.

Join us in the Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 11th and walk alongside our fellow LGBTQ+ AAPI organizations! We will meet up with the other organizations near Logan Circle at 1:30 P.M. ET to get organized and walk over together to the staging area. The parade begins at 3 P.M. ET. While we will be walking the whole time and ending in Dupont Circle, there will be opportunities to exit along the parade route if you need to leave early. This opportunity is open to everyone!

On Saturday, June 18th from 9 AM to 12 PM ET, join us to sort and package donations that will be used to serve families from low-income communities.

QTAPI SOCIAL DANCE NIGHT

On Sunday, June 19th, we are excited to partner with the Queer & Trans API (QTAPI) community for a very special QTAPI Social Dance Night featuring South Asian and Filipino dance styles of Bhangra and Tinikling from 7 - 11 P.M. ET upstairs at As You Are (AYA) bar in Eastern Market, D.C.'s new woman-owned queer bar and café! We're also very excited to bring you world champion dancer Erica Smith for a West Coast Swing lesson. Bhangra & Tinikling lessons will be donation-based. Pricing for swing lesson TBD.
All attendees will be required to show proof of full vaccination (such as card or photocopy) along with photo ID. Masks are required.

NAAAP DC has the honor of being a partner for the upcoming Unity March on Saturday, June 25th beginning at 12 P.M. ET. The Unity March is an Asian American multicultural event to advance socioeconomic and cultural equity, racial justice, and solidarity. The June 25th mobilization aims to bring together the diverse Asian diaspora with multicultural partners across the LGBTQ+, Muslim, disability communities, Black, Indigenous and Pacific Islander, Latino, and Arab American communities.
We will be meeting as a group at Teaism Penn Quarter at 10:45 A.M. for a Meet & Greet Breakfast and then proceed to the National Mall at 11:30 A.M.

AAPI SALUTE TO SERVICE
IN-PERSON, ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY
Each spring, several DC AAPI community organizations come together to organize AAPI Salute to Service, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to recognize our service members and remember those interred at Arlington National Cemetery. This would be our second time doing this, as the last two events were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This event will be on Sunday, June 26th at 10:30 A.M. and is open to the public.

Learn about the step-by/step home buying process to ensure a seamless buying transaction as a First Homebuyer or Investor from our host, Esther Shim, a Top Producing Buyer’s Agent and Entrepreneur, and a passionate advocate for AAPI representation. The event will kick off with a presentation from our speakers as we enjoy dinner, followed by trivia and an audience Q&A session.

We were so thrilled to finally celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in-person with our community after two years of virtual celebrations! Here are just a few photos from this month's events. We held our first hybrid Women in Leadership Fireside Chat Series, visited the National Museum of Asian Art, attended a private screening of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings with Disney Motion Pictures, held a big celebration with cultural performances and the founder of Kasama Rum, and ended the month with Trivia and Karaoke Night!
