BOARDING NEWSLETTER
Kia ora whānau and welcome back to our week 6 of Term 2 boarding newsletter. We hope you enjoyed the long weekend, the next one is only just around the corner. Keep reading below to see what the boarders have been up to.
The Week So Far

Last weekend’s Queens Birthday long weekend saw vastly reduced numbers in the hostel with 20 boys staying with us. Despite this reduction in numbers, boys watched the Friday night Crusaders rugby quarter final live and were kept busy playing mini golf and ten pin bowling on trips out over the weekend.

Week 6 has gone by in a blur and again boys have stayed busy and focused. We had boys working in their Graffiti art session, producing vivid, polished works and boys making the most of the opportunity to stretch and relax in Yoga on Wednesday. We are back to a full sporting programme and many boys are eagerly anticipating a weekend of playing and watching lots of sport. We have 30 boys going to support the Crusaders tonight, in their semi-final quest against the Chiefs.

Last week 3 of us from the Boarding management team were fortunate to attend the annual NZBSA conference in Wellington. This gave us a marvelous opportunity to network and collaborate with other boarding hostels in NZ and to listen to a wide range of excellent quest speakers. My favourite sessions were led by Suzi Mc Alpine author of ‘beyond burnout’ who gave us an insightful look at how we can try to identify signs/avoid burnout as leaders & managers. It was also good to hear from Dr Michael Carr Gregg on how we can apply mental health first aid for adolescents in our care.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend wherever you are. Best wishes Dai and the Boarding team.

Last Friday, some boarders that stayed in during the long weekend watched the Crusaders winning against the Reds 37-15 in the quarter-finals, as mentioned above 30 boys are going to watch the semi-finals tonight!
Hunter, Brody, Hawaikii and Christopher went out for some lunch and played some mini golf in the long weekend - we are planning a different activity for the boys staying in this weekend.
Great to see the boys mastering graffiti class, loving the smiles and focus in the above pictures from this weeks session.
Yoga is seeming to be a very popular activity with all year groups, awesome to see the boys giving it a go!
