July 2022
Learn more about firework safety and the increased risk of fire danger in
Salt Lake City for 2022
SLC Fire Chief Karl Lieb
July in Salt Lake City is a month full of fun and celebration. Doubtless, you are looking forward to enjoying summer holidays with friends and family. Your holiday festivities might include some fireworks this year. With that in mind, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of some firework safety tips.
  1. Fireworks discharge is restricted within Salt Lake City. Please refer to our map (pictured below) to find out whether firework use is allowed in your area.
  2. Fireworks may only be discharged July 2-5 and July 22-25, 2022.
  3. Use fireworks outside only, under the supervision of a responsible adult. Alcohol and fireworks do not mix.
  4. Always have water handy to douse any fireworks once used or to use in case of errant sparks or other emergencies.
Fireworks can be a beautiful, visual display but they also present many hazards. Follow all laws and safety guidelines to help your SLC firefighters keep our community safe this year! If you're looking for an alternative to fireworks this year, Salt Lake City is hosting "Laser Light Nights" on July 2 and July 23. In the event things do get out of hand and someone is injured or a fire starts, please call 911 for help. Firefighters will respond as fast as possible to mitigate the crisis quickly. Refer to the Utah State Fire Marshal website for more detailed information about the safe and allowable use of fireworks.
Extreme Heat Awareness
There is hot, and then there is HOT! Extreme heat is defined as a period of at least two days in which temperatures are above 90 degrees. In these conditions, be advised of the following safety tips:

•    Older adults, children, and vulnerable individuals are at greater risk from extreme heat.
•    Schedule outdoor activities for mornings or evenings, when it is a little cooler.
•    Protect yourself from sun or over-exposure while outside.
•    Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
•    Stay indoors or plan indoor activities for days of extreme heat.

Learn how to protect yourself, family, friends, and pets in extreme heat. Find these safety tips and more at Ready.Gov.
