Thank you to all who attended the Connected Rivers Seminar in Lisbon, Portugal! The event was a fantastic opportunity to learn from experts across Europe and beyond about experiences in dam removal for biodiversity restoration, funding mechanisms, and policy examples. New Case Study: Kangaskoski Dam Removal
River Hiitolanjoki runs from Finland to Russian Lake Ladoga. The river is home to Finland's last remaining stock of natural landlocked salmon. For over a century, the Finnish section of the river has been fragmented by three hydropower dams: the Kangaskoski, the Ritakoski, and the Lahnasenkoski. The planned removal of these three dams has become the largest river restoration project in Finland.
