Thoughts
We just finished our Salt & Light Lunch monthly devotion meeting. Each time we meet I gain more insight and understanding as to what it means to be Salt & Light in this our world, during this our time. Sometimes it is difficult to grasp but I suspect I am not the only one who struggles with living out a call to faithful discipleship.
 
The devotion for May 28th opened my eyes to something I never fully understood. It’s the story of Joshua coming face to face with the commander of the Lord’s army (none other than a visible manifestation of Jesus in the Old Testament). Tiegreen writes in the devotional reading, “Joshua wanted to know if the warrior was for the Israelites or their adversaries. ‘Neither’, the man said, He had not come to take the side of human beings but to call human beings to his side…Joshua needed to make a decision between his agenda and God’s.” As many times as I have read that story in the Bible I have always been perplexed by the answer given. Surely the Israelites were going to win this battle so surely he was on their side. So, why such an answer? This reading was a real eye-opener as I realized this was Joshua’s defining moment – this was his All-In moment. The choice was his.
 
As I think about this story I realize there are other stories in Scripture that tell of defining moments in the lives of the saints. Abraham’s almost sacrifice of Isaac, Moses’ mother placing him in a woven basket, Moses’s going back to Egypt to face Pharoah, David facing the giant Goliath, Esther’s decision to go and see the king, Isaiah saying, here I am Lord, send me, Mary saying be it done unto me according to your word, Peter preaching at Pentecost, Paul, blind and waiting for three days in Damascus on Ananias. This list could go on an on. Each had a decision to make – these were their All-In moments!
 
God calls us to make a decision too – He calls us to be on his side, to be part of what he is doing in this his creation. Will we, as Joshua and the others say yes and join him in his creative, redemptive activity. We can be sure the Lord went before Joshua before Joshua made the first step around Jericho and we can be sure the Lord will go before us in whatever he has called us to do. There is nothing wrong in wanting to know but Jesus calls us to something more, something deeper. Jesus calls us, as he has called others, to be All-In. All-in, it’s our defining moment also!!

What kind of question can you ask?
Anything you want to know.  A bible question, a theology question, a question about Methodism or denominational politics, a question about our Church, our worship, our finances – there is nothing off limits.

Your Church is committed: to speak the truth in love, to be authentic, genuine, and real; and to be transparent in our decision making.  And we really, really love to answer questions (especially about the bible, but about other stuff too).  

Submitting your question in advance is appreciated but not required – and will improve your chance of getting a non-rambling answer — just email it to one of us or to Valori — Dr Speegle, Christopher Hart, Connie Felter, Kevin Martin, and others will be on hand, and we hope to see you there.

We're Hiring a Custodian/Janitor This is a part-time position Monday – Friday, averaging 25-30 hours per week, and involves the cleaning and light maintenance of the church buildings and grounds. If you are interested or know of someone that may be interested, please contact Valori Kerns at 601-413-1992. Applications may be obtained at the church office.

Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given to us your servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity,
and in the power of your divine Majesty
to worship the Unity:
Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship,
and bring us at last to see you
in your one and eternal glory,
O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign,
one God, for ever and ever.
