Dear SMCS Parents,

Happy Summer!

On behalf of Father Cibelli and the faculty and staff, I want to say thank you for the sacrifices you make to choose Catholic education at SMCS. We truly appreciate that you are entrusting your precious children to us. A strong partnership between parents and teachers is imperative to the success of our students. We are in this together! Thank you for partnering with SMCS!  We are looking forward to a fantastic 2022-2023 school year!

Take a moment and ask your child to reflect on the school year, and what they have learned, celebrate the accomplishments, and set goals for what they can do differently next year.  Below are some possible reflection questions to guide the conversation.

  • What is something you did well this year? What are you most proud of yourself for?

  • What brought you joy?

  • What was your biggest struggle?

  • Do you think there are things you could do next year to make this better?

  • What have you learned about yourself?

  • If your peers were honest, would they describe you as a person who is nice to everyone?

  • Do you think you were respectful to your teachers?

  • When you think about the things you want to do and become, did your choices this year help you get closer to those goals?

  • If you were only graded on your attitude, what would that grade be?

On behalf of the school community, I want to thank Mrs. Marilisse Gonzalez for serving as HSA Co-President, for Mrs. Aggie Cantave serving as Vice-President, Mrs. Jennifer Prosa for serving as HSA Treasurer, and Mrs. Rachel Goodman  for serving as Corresponding Secretary. Their time and efforts truly made a difference for our students! Parent leadership is an important asset of our school.Their dedication, support, and love of SMCS is very much appreciated.

A message from the Department of Catholic Schools Risk Management office:

The Office of Risk Management for the Archdiocese of Baltimore offers a voluntary student accident plan for school families to purchase beginning July 1, 2022. This coverage is an inexpensive way for families to cover co-pays, and high deductibles, and may even provide accident coverage in the event that no other health coverage is available.

According to the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) most recent statistics, 80% of elementary students report to the school nurse or administrator at least once each year for injuries related to an accident while in school. Fortunately, most of these incidents are relatively minor. However, each year, a number of these students sustain injuries requiring medical treatment that cannot be rendered at school. Moreover, while high school students experience injuries at a lower rate, the injuries tend to be more severe, with many injuries resulting from participation in athletics and extracurricular activities.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published a report regarding deductible amounts and co-payment requirements. Per the report, those plans with the most favorable terms on average provide an annual maximum of $2,000 per person or $4,000 per family for out-of-pocket paid expenses. This amount goes up from that point, maxing it out with plans that carry a maximum of $9,200 per person or $18,400 per family for the out-of-pocket paid expenses.

To learn more about this plan, please visit www.archbalt.org/risk, and then select SCHOOLS in the red and blue menu at the bottom of the page.  From there, select Student Accident Plan for the Brochure and enrollment links.  Click here for a direct link to the page.

Please continue to pray for everyone in our school community and everyone in the world. Pray that our world becomes a safer and healthier place for all of us. Remind our students to stay safe, keep studying, and keep praying!

I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to serve the SMCS community, it’s a great honor!  I'm grateful for the opportunity to provide our students with a unique, challenging experience where they learn, grow and excel! I'm grateful for our hard-working staff and the way they care deeply about the students and families they serve. I'm grateful for supportive SMCS parents who have partnered with us in providing an engaging, meaningful learning experience for children each day.  May God bless all of you!

With the light of Christ shining in our hearts,

Mrs. Hanner

Interim Principal

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.  Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” ~ Matthew 5:14-16
