ROCCi Joins the RTVS Family

Efforts to revive the Critical Care peer support pathway for RTVS are continuing — and we’ve taken a further step by giving the emerging pathway a name: Rural Outreach for Critical Care and Internal Medicine (ROCCi - pronounced ROCKY - cue the music). It is hoped that the pathway, led by Dr. Scot Mountain, will have both Intensivist and Internist involvement, so that healthcare providers in rural settings have access to both specialties. Intensivists and Internists interested in supporting this rural peer support pathway can reach out via virtual@rtvs-bc.ca with their details. Read our profile of Dr. Mountain in this article.

PoCUS Paused for Summer

Real-Time Virtual Support is used to help physicians and other providers train in Point of Care Ultrasound (PoCUS). Practice opportunities ran every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. Pacific from November 2021 to May 2022. The popular sessions led by Dr. Virginia Robinson are now being paused for the summer. The goal was to provide an opportunity for rural physicians, midwives, nurse practitioners, physician residents, students and other health care providers who have access to ultrasound to call in and get help with their ultrasound skills, usually around a specific exam. Read more about the PoCUS Practice Sessions here.

PoCUS Practice will return in October. If there are any particular exams you would like to see covered in the fall please let Dr. Robinson know at vrobinson@rtvs-bc.ca.

MaBAL Session for Your Calendar

RTVS is also being used to create a community of learners interested in rural maternity care with coaching from a Maternity and Babies Advice Line (MaBAL) Registered Midwife or rural RN.

These sessions are geared towards nurses supporting maternity care in rural sites, covering a range of topics through interactive case discussions.

MaBAL Coaching with Midwives takes place on Thursdays at noon Pacific. More information about MaBAL Coaching with Midwives is available here.

Join us Thursday, June 9, 12 p.m. Pacific, for MaBAL Coaching.

The session will be an open forum with Registered Midwife Celina Laursen to talk about Perinatal Loss. In this coaching session Celina will discuss the intrapartum and postpartum care of an individual experiencing perinatal loss.
