JUNE 2022

Welcome to Community News - the Shire of Gingin's community e-newsletter

The Shire of Gingin would like to inform and support our communities to become inclusive, vibrant, and healthy, and provide information on available grants, local community and club events.

You are welcome to share this information onwards.
New Entry Statement for Gingin. The Shire's Operations team recently installed a colourful, welcoming new entry statement at the Dewar Road entrance to Gingin off Brand Highway. It features heritage-style timber framework, landscaping, and replaces the previous sign which was old and deteriorating.
Seniors' Movie Matinee
On Thursday 26 May, approximately 20 of our senior community members came together to enjoy a day of socialising and were taken back in time to watch a classic 1950s comedy 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes'. The seniors were treated with movie snacks, drinks and a lovely light lunch provided by the Guilderton Country Club. There was even a raffle put on with local produce as the prize and Anne Stroud was the lucky winner.

The Shire enjoyed producing this event for our senior community and feedback indicated it was very well enjoyed.

This event was held in lieu of the Seniors Week celebration that generally runs in November each year. However due to Covid-19 restrictions this event could not take place at that time. So it was great to finally organise an event for our seniors. All going well we will endeavor to hold another event for Seniors Week in November.
Playspace Award of Excellence - Parks and Leisure Australia WA

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOAS COMMUNITY WORKING GROUP & SHIRE OF GINGIN STAFF!

On Thursday 26 May the Gingin Outdoor Activity Space (GOAS) was awarded a high commendation at the PLA WA Awards of Excellence ceremony for a playspace >$0.5million.

Attending the awards on behalf of the GOAS Community Working Group and the Shire were (pictured below L-R) Councillor Linda Balcombe, Aaron Crofts, Jenna Treloar, and Les Crichton. Presenting the award on behalf of one of the sponsors of the category was Andrew Reedy (pictured far right).

The GOAS project was up against some serious competition and beat some very high-profile metro and country local governments.

This award is testament to the outstanding working relationship and efforts of the GOAS Community Working Group and Shire of Gingin staff. Congratulations to everyone involved.
