A Word from John Beller

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, an old celebration that marks the end of the seasonal holiday cycle of the liturgical year that begins in Advent and Christmas and extends through Lent and Easter and Pentecost. We are used to thinking and speaking about Trinity in a theological way, the term for how the church has made sense of the Scriptural witness of God as Father, Son, and Spirit or creator, savior, and sustainer. But as N.T. Wright said in a Trinity Sunday sermon last year, Trinity is not primarily a philosophical concept but is, rather, a present reality. Trinity, he says, is how we know God “gets his feet dirty.” Trinity is how God is with us.

This Sunday we are going to read Romans 5.1-5 together and reflect on how God’s triune nature is revealed in the Scriptural pattern of redemption and what that means for our lives in the world. God is with us and for us and in us, and we live and move in that grace. I am excited to share some of that with you as we worship together Sunday morning!

So many folks and places in the world need our prayers right now. Let us not be overwhelmed by the need but remain hopeful for God’s presence and purpose. And let us not forget that prayer is celebration too. Remember Dave and Stephanie in the coming weeks as they say “Yes!” to each other and begin their married life together.

“Throughout his account, Mark unveils a Jesus of unparalleled power and authority but also a Jesus of humility and love. And while this Jesus invites each of us into a greater story through His teachings, He demands we come as active participants. We must acknowledge Him, seek salvation in Him, and follow Him wherever He leads.
"In The Gospel of Mark, you'll follow Jesus through His days of early ministry to the cross and discover what it means to be the recipients of His overflowing compassion and the very reason for His all-consuming passion.”
We would love for you to join us as we take this journey through the pages of the gospel of Mark. We will meet at the Landers on Tuesdays at 10am and 6pm beginning June 7th. Please sign up at the Welcome Desk or HERE.
