The Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety has served the MSU community since 1928. The mission of the department is to enforce laws and provide public safety services in an inclusive and accessible manner through outreach, engagement and care to support the Spartan community.
More than 70 officers work for the department and are certified by the State of Michigan. These officers provide a variety of services including calls for service, investigations, special event security, and emergency management. In addition, more than 30 civilian employees manage critical operations within MSU DPPS, including traffic engineering, information technology, access control, communications, and parking services.
