Over the past several months, I have become increasingly aware of the spiritual battle that is taking place for the hearts of our kids.  As parents and school staff, we are fighting against a host of ideas, philosophies, and false teaching that is being flung at our students from nearly every direction.  From the TV, computer, phone, entertainment, video games, music, neighborhoods, and society in general, our children are being confronted with things they neither understand nor have the capacity to make judgments on.  It is a spiritual battle for the hearts and lives of our kids, and as parents and school staff, we are called upon to stand up and defend them.  Because it is a spiritual battle, it can only be waged in the spiritual realm.  The apostle Paul made it clear, “…we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12) He follows this with the need to take up the whole armor of God, ending with verses 18 and 19, “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.  To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all saints.

Some months ago, I offered an invitation to all school dads who would be willing to join me for a time of prayer each week. Since then we have a strong group of dads joining together to do battle for the spiritual health of our kids.  These meetings continue weekly on Fridays from 6:30-7:00 am in the lounge. I welcome any and every dad to join us as we gather on our knees to pray for the students and the school; standing shoulder to shoulder for the cause of the Truth of God.  I know your days are busy and you must get to work, but the work of protecting our kids by joining in prayer is certainly one of the most essential things you do as a dad.
After our time in prayer each week, I will send out a brief email to all of the fathers in our school family to share prayer needs and encourage you to pray for our school throughout the week. Here are just a few of the things we lay before the throne this week:
  1. Pray for staff and students needed for next year.
  2. Pray for health and safety for all who are traveling this summer.
  3. Pray for a summer of rest and restoration.
Thank you for taking the time to pray through these things with us. Our time of prayer together will continue throughout the summer. I encourage you to join us at 6:30 on Friday mornings whenever you are able.

His,
Dick Buckingham
