Wildflowers in schools program
The wildflowers in schools program will continue in 2022 and we are now looking for schools who would like to participate. This program is provided at no-charge and is supported by the Dame Phyllis Frost Women's Centre nursery in Ravenhall, who have kindly offered to grow seedlings for us again this year.
As a part of the program, we are offering 50 wildflower seedlings per school to 10 schools in Brimbank. As places are limited, we encourage you to get in contact ASAP if you would like to participate.
To be eligible, schools must:
- have a minimum area of 4m2 allocated within the school – sunny position preferred
- have the capacity to plant the seedlings shortly after receiving them (around 50 tubestock plants in Aug/Sept)
These important plants attract beneficial insects that assist with pollination – a perfect addition for schools with food or habitat gardens.
Primary and high schools can register their interest by sending an email with Subject “Wildflowers in schools program” to environment@brimbank.vic.gov.au including the school name, contact person and phone number.

Updates to the Solar Homes Program
Solar Victoria’s Solar Homes program has updated their eligibility criteria, expanding the program to help even more Victorians.
Victorians who have not previously claimed a solar rebate, will still be eligible for up to $2,400 in rebates for the installation of bill busting solar products. Households are also eligible for a $1,400 interest free loan, cutting up to $3,800 from upfront installation costs.
The changes now also mean the nearly 190,000 Victorians who have previously accessed a rebate to install solar panels will be able to access up to an additional $1,000 to install solar hot water or a highly efficient heat pump system!
The Solar Homes program will cut Victoria’s carbon emissions by almost four million tonnes – the equivalent of taking one million cars off the road. Household solar is expected to generate 12.5 per cent of Victoria’s 40 per cent target for renewable energy by 2025.
To find out more visit- www.solar.vic.gov.au
Or to see how Brimbank City Council can help with support and rebates, visit the 100% Renewable Brimbank website.
