The outstanding careers of two RNZ staff were recognised at the Taite Prize last night, with Lately host Karyn Hay ONZM presented the Independent Spirit Award for her contribution to the New Zealand music industry throughout her illustrious broadcasting career, and Tony Stamp the first recipient of the new award NZ On Air Outstanding Music Journalism.
RNZ’s head of Radio David Allan says Karyn Hay is a brilliant broadcaster who has spent her career as a champion of New Zealand music, including on her current show on RNZ National Lately and it’s wonderful to see her acknowledged by Independent Music NZ.
“Karyn’s first media job was as a cadet journalist with RNZ, and since then she’s had a stunning career in broadcasting, writing and media management. Karyn remains a captivating interviewer and host and she’s an important part of the team both as the presenter of Lately, and elsewhere on RNZ National such as fronting holiday programming.”
“Congratulations too to Tony Stamp, who produces incredibly thoughtful music reviews and features for flagship music show Music 101. Tony’s passion and knowledge on all things New Zealand music shines on his weekly segment The Sampler and his interviews, it’s great to see his contribution recognised,” said David Allan.
“New Zealand music is an important part of RNZ and you’ll hear local music and talent featured across our shows from the very successful Music 101 hosted by Charlotte Ryan, Karyn’s regular features on Lately, and now guests are coming back into studios we can now enjoy the return of popular NZ Live music segment on Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan.”
Lately with Karyn Hay airs weeknights at 10pm on RNZ National, and The Sampler is part of Music 101, Saturdays from 1-5pm on RNZ National.
